Mrs. Collins was a member of the Mullins-Marion Freewill Baptist Church.     2. MULLINS — Mrs. Mildred Small Bailey, 73, widow of John Lawton J.L. Bailey, Jr., died Thursday, October 9, 2008 at Marion County Medical Center after an illness. She was born September 1, 1935 in Mullins, a daughter of the late Carson Powell Small and the late Mittie McDaniel Small. Mrs. Bailey was retired from Investment Life and Trust Company. She was a member of the Ladies Auxillary of VFW Post #6122. Mrs. Bailey was an avid Clemson Tigers fan. She was a member of Gapway Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class. Surviving Mrs. Bailey are: a Sister: Pauline Smith and her husband Wade Ernest Smith, Jr. of Mullins; a Brother: J.C. Small and his friends Ruby Miles of Mullins; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bailey was predeceased by a sister, Reba Jennie Small and 3 brothers, Mason Small, James Small and Horace Small. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 11 in Cedardale Cemetery, with the Rev. Chip Scruggs and the Rev. Glenn Brown officiating. The services will be directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home. She was born and raised in Nichols, S.C., the daughter of Herbert Lennon Ayres and Carrie Claire (Brunson) Ayres. She graduated from Columbia College, was a teacher and then worked at the tax commission in Columbia, S.C. She later moved to Alaska, where she worked for the government and where she met Frank Wright, her late husband. They retired to Florida in the late 1960s. She will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Allen was a member of Latta Presbyterian Church, the VFW and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He also taught Welding and Electronics at Savannah Vocational School in Garden City, Ga. He served two years in the U. S. Army. He was a member of Alee Temple Shrine & Scottish Rite in Savannah, Ga., and Frank F. Baker Lodge No.46 in Garden City, Ga. He was a member of Lynches River Blue Grass and a charter member of Lumber River Blue Grass Association and a ham operator. He was a man of many talents. He loved to work on his tractors and antique engines and fly his airplane.
