    1. [SCMARION] Dayton P. Shelley
    2. GREEN SEA | Dayton P. Shelley, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 21, 2008 in Jay, Florida, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 10, 1925 in Green Sea, South Carolina, the son of the late Annie Vance Clemmons Shelley and the late James Porter Shelley. Dayton was a great man, he wasn't a world leader or a famous doctor, a war hero, or a famous sports figure. He was no business tycoon and you never saw his name in the financial pages. He was one of the greatest men that ever lived. He was our father, grandfather, brother, and friend. I guess you might think he was a person who was never interested in getting credit or receiving honors. He didn't own a tuxedo and I'm sure he never tasted caviar. Opera wasn't his cup of tea. He liked country music and chewing (not smoking) his cigar. He enjoyed all sports, eating oysters, and shooting fireworks. His greatest love was serving as owner and operator of Green Sea Grocery. He loved his country and was a veteran of the United States Army. He loved his fellow man and was a friend to all. He was a congenial and happy man that was always joking around. He is survived by his daughters, Toddie Milstead and husband, Roger, of Jay, Fla.; Sabrina Davidson and husband, Paul, of Atlanta, Ga.; and son, Paul Shelley of Monroeville, Ala. In addition, he was blessed with dear grandchildren, Jessie Ivey, Ryan Ivey, and his wife, Tiana, of Jay, Fla. He is also survived by his sister, Annie Lois Johnson of Green Sea; and brothers, Clyde Lewis Shelley of Tabor City, N.C., and Shelton Shelley and wife, Betty June, of Green Sea; and sister-in-law, Ordet Shelley of Marion. Dayton's celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Friday, December 26, 2008 in Green Sea Baptist Church, where he was a member. Pastor Tim Nugent will conduct officiate. Viewing and visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service at Green Sea Baptist Church. Please sign Mr. Shelley's online guest book at _Hardwickfh.com_ (http://hardwickfh.com/) and at _MyrtleBeachOnline.com_ (http://myrtlebeachonline.com/) . Hardwick Funeral Home of Loris, 843-756-7001, is in charge of the arrangements.
