    2. Betty Jo & John Stewart
    3. I agree that Henry Price was born Jan. 10, 1819. Victoria has the McMillan Cemetary posted and that is the date there. I tried to find the tombstone but it was so hot that day, I had to quit looking. I really am not sure that it is still there. Rev. Simeon Campbell says that he died Sept. 16, 1892. Henry Price's brother, John W., was born in 1921 and apparently they were close because they lived close together and the families through the years remained close. My Mother (G-Granddaughter of Henry) remembers Charlotte & Missouri, daughters of John W. from his marriage to Margaret Lewis. I am also connected to the Smith's through Zilpha Smith, Sarah Ann's sister, who married Calvin Wiggins, another branch of my family. If anyone finds out who the parents of the Price brothers are, please let me know. Betty Jo Stewart

    2. In a message dated 6/24/01 8:04:19 AM Pacific Daylight Time, PPrice3993@aol.com writes: > Henry H. Price (born 1810) of Marion County, SC was married first to > Catherine Katie (Cady) Lewis born 1813. They had kids; William, Evander, > Peggy, Henry was born January 10, 1819, not in 1810. He is shown in the book "William Lewis of Horry Co., SC" written by Mary Lewis Stevenson, pg. 43. He died June 15, 1892. He is buried in McMillan Cemetery and is listed in the book "101 Cemeteries in Marion Co., SC". Simeon Campbell refers to Jane Price in his journal as having died May 21, 1898. I'm fairly certain this is Elizabeth Jane Smith Price, Henry's second wife. I don't find her in the cemetery listings probably because she may be one of the ones buried in the small enclosed cemetery where her father, James D. Smith, is buried. The memorial stone erected just says "In memory of James D. Smith and loved ones who lie herein". James D. Smith was my GGGGrandfather through his daughter (Elizabeth Jane's sister), Sarah Ann Smith Price. I wish you all the luck in the world finding Henry's parents because I believe if you do find them, they are also the exact same ones I'm looking for. I realize you are related through the Lewis marriage, not the Smith marriage, but the Price line, I believe, is the same. I think my Laban is your Henry's brother. Cathy

    2. Linda Hull
    3. Hello! Thank you so much for posting this obituary. Joseph Boyd Elvington was my mother's cousin. His mother, Eva Rogers Elvington, and my grandfather, Earle Braswell Rogers, were siblings. We were a military family, and lost track of Mother's Rogers' cousins with the passing of my grandparents years ago. We, the younger generation, simply didn't know where they all were. Doing the genealogy for our family, I came across the names, but there was no one to ask about them. Mother is still living but has alzheimer's. This reminds us to keep on having those family reunions so we don't lose each other because family is important. Does anyone have an address for the family? I would like to send a card. You may send it to me privately at: woehome@frontiernet.net Linda Hull

    3. Hi all, For those interested in the Lane family, I have finished (for now) the following pages: Alexander Lane (1787) and Lucinda Blackman (new page) http://www.martygrant.com/gen/lane/lane-alexander-marion.htm William C. Lane (c1820) and Elizabeth --- and Olivia Stephens (updated page) http://www.martygrant.com/gen/lane/lane-william-marion.htm Benjamin Lane (c1820) and Elizabeth (Johnson?) (updated page) http://www.martygrant.com/gen/lane/lane-benjamin-marion.htm James Lane (1790/94-1844) and Martha E. --- (of Marion, Darlington and Florence) (updated page) http://www.martygrant.com/gen/lane/lane-james-martha-marion.htm This is all I'm going to do on the Lanes for now (unless I find something good to add). This covers all the known descendants of Osborne Lane up through ca 1880 (and 1910 in some cases). There were some "new" Lanes that appeared in Marion in 1880 whom I haven't been able to tie in with any of the early families. They need some research. There are also the African-American Lane families listed in 1870, 1880 and 1900 census that need some research. I'll attempt to do something with all of the above at some future date. As always, any comments are welcome. Marty Grant email: public@martygrant.com web: http://www.martygrant.com AIM: MartyGrantNC

    1. [SCMARION-L] How The Bad Trans. Virus Works
    2. I thought this would help everyone. Sgt. George has given permission to post this to any list. I hope it is OK with the List Mom. Barbara Vestal Byrd The below is from Sgt George on the VIRUS-DISCUSSION-LIST: > >OK, let's see if I can explain this so that everyone understands >how these latest viruses, trojans, and worms work. > >Let's start with the very latest, W32/Badtrans@MM, also seen >as W32/Badtrans@M. Here are other aliases that have been >found: > >Backdoor-NK.svr , >BadTrans (F-Secure), >I-Worm.Badtrans (AVP), >W32.Badtrans.13312@mm (NAV). > >There are several things about this one that need to be discussed, >how it is spread, and the danger to the infected user's computer. > >1) W32/Badtrans@MM is received as a REAL attachment >(more about "real" vs. "inline" attachments later). It comes as an >actual file attachment, which is downloaded to a user's computer >into whatever directory is set up for such downloads. For >Eudora, Pegasus, and other "stand alone" email programs, >this will be something like "Downloads", "Attachments", etc. >For MS Outlook and MS Outlook Express, I'm not sure where >a separate attached file is placed. > >2) A user's computer is NOT infected UNTIL he/she clicks on >the attachment and "runs" it, that is, executes it so that it does >whatever it's supposed to do. > >3) Once a user clicks the attachment, it installs itself on to the >user's computer. It then does two things: > > a) It propagates itself so that every time the system is rebooted, >it mails itself to the sender of EVERY UNREAD EMAIL in the user's >MS Outlook FOLDERS. He says to himself, "This >Bill Smith is answering my original post, AND he has sent >me an attachment which is probably a file having something >to do with information on my query." He clicks the attachment; >thus ANOTHER SMITH-L Mailing List user is infected. > >or > > II) He is savvy enough to know NOT to open the attachment, >BUT from the looks of the "reply" it appears that it came >back to him via the Mailing List. He screams and curses, >and says, "I knew it! I don't care what the Listowners and >the folks at Rootsweb say, these virus attachments ARE >coming through the Mailing List!" He then posts angry >posts to all the Mailing Lists to which he subscribes, >calling the Listowners and Rootsweb people liars. He >thus starts another round of uninformed posts about how >attachments CAN be passed through Mailing Lists, and >about how viruses CAN also be passed through the Lists. > > In short, this virus/trojan tricks recipients of infected >email into thinking the virus is being propagated via a >Mailing List. It doesn't matter >whether you are using a dialup modem, a cable modem, DSL, >or whatever, you NEED a firewall. A firewall is nothing more >than a small utility that prevents malicious people from entering >your system through a "back door".
