Larry, It was an archived conversation between you and Susan O'Bryan on the Marion Co. site that led me to discover what I now have. I recognized the names Tart and Rogers you were talking about. It's taken me two years and two trips to Monroe County, Al. to put what I have together. Everyone should check out the archives. There is so much information there and this IS the greatest list going, so helpful and generous! Our coordinator, Victoria Proctor, is the leader of the pack. Thanks to all of you who contribute and volunteer to transcribe things for the site. I say it again--I love this site! Nell ----- Original Message ----- From: Larry H. Larry, You have the right picture. John G. Tart was in Monroe Co, Ala in the 1840 census and I have seen that Roderick Tart was in Henderson Co., Tn. in 1840. I believe the Nancy Kennedy who was his wife was the grandaughter of George Clark. As for descendants for John G. Tart and Meedy, well I just don't know. I posted his will on the Marion County site where he named his daughter, Catherine Bethea, wife of Goodman Bethea and named his son, John C. Tart, as heirs. I don't know if these two were Meedy's children or not. Meedy did have children and I believe two of them were Kenion Rogers who married Mary Clark (another grandchild of George and Sarah Clark through Delilah Clark) and Emily Rogers who married John Lowe in 1837 in Monroe Co., Ala. That is my husband's line. I say I believe they were her children, but I have no bible record or probate record to prove it. John G. Tart did sign for Emily Rogers to marry John Lowe. Maybe another researcher will see this and add to it as she has probate records to back parts of it up. John C. Tart, son of John G. Tart, was in Monroe Co., Ms. in 1860 and Kenion Rogers was in Monroe Co., Ala. in 1860. Do you happen to have the Lucille Utley book that mentions Robert Rogers not being responsible for Meedy's bills? I'd sure like to have that refference again. Thanks for responding. Jane, I was glad Jo Church & Roger Morgan picked up on this. I am going to try to identify some of these for you. Incidentally, John Dewey Rogers also has a tombstone in Cedardale Cemetary in Mullins along with his wife and some of his children. W. H. Rogers (wife Lenora) & Enoch Rogers (wife Janey) were brothers of John Dewey, sons of Ebenezer. N. J., William Sidney (I think) and Archie B. were all children of W. H. Margaret Moore Rogers & Isla E. Rogers were wives of N. J. There was another wife, also. Mary Ruth Rogers (she was killed by her husband), John Kemp Rogers and Ebb H. Rogers were all children of John Dewey Rogers, my G-grandfather. The rest are almost all children of some of the above. Contact me later and I will see if I can find some of my information. I have been dealing with computer problems and I can't find everything now. I will talk to my Mother and let her straighten them out for me as to who belongs to who. Betty Jo Stewart
George Clark of Marion SC had a daughter named Meedy who was mentioned in his probate records around 1841-42 as both Meedy Rogers and later as Meedy Tart. Meedy Rogers was head of household on the 1820 Marion Co., SC census with 2 young females and 2 young males. One researcher found a record where Robert Rogers of Marion Co. warned folks not to give Meedy Rogers any credit because he would not be responsible for her debts. This was in one of Lucille Utley's books. Would someone please look this up for me and give me the date, book and page number? If there is any other information on Robert Rogers, that would be appreciated too. It's not known if they divorced or he died or what. Meedy was listed as a wife of John G. Tart from Marion SC on the 1850 Monroe Co., AL census but further information indicates that she was not his wife :O( Any help would be so nice. I love this list! Nell
I was hoping Jo Church Dickinson had picked up on the questions about the Rogers in the Fork Baptist Church. She is the info supplier for this area. Ebenezer, Celia and infants of W.H. & Lenora Rogers and John Dew Rogers were buried in the Rogers Cemetery (1/2 mile NW of Huggins Bridge, Hwy #41, Fork Community.) I think she has told me that the Tombstones were moved because of the flooding on the old cemetery. I am a Rogers descendent of both Ebenezer and Dew Roger and with the help of a " LOT " of cousins I have a very large file on these families. Roger Morgan.
Ebenezer Rogers and his wife Celia were buried in the cemetery behind their home near Huggins Bridge. Some years ago, the family had all the stones in this little cemetery moved to Fork Baptist Church. The stones do not appear in the Dillon Cemetery Book at Fork Baptist Church, because at that time they were still in the field between the old Rogers place and Little Pee Dee River. They are listed in the book under Rogers Cemetery, page 10. Until quite recently, five or six stones from the Rogers Cemetery sat at the front corner of the church cemetery, right beside the brick wall, all in a row. I was recently told, and a visit confirmed, that these stones have been moved again, this time to a position directly behind the church. At least, three of them are there now - Ebenezer, Celia, and John D. I've no idea what happened to the other stones. Here are the names and years on the stones, as given at the time the Ebenezer Rogers Family Cemetery was surveyed. I have truncated the dates. Ebenezer Rogers, 1804 - 1875 Celia B., wife of Ebenezer Rogers - dates unobtainable Son of W.H. & Lenora Rogers 1894 - 1895 Infant of W.H. & Lenora Rogers Sep 1876 - Nov 1876 Octavia Rogers, dau of W.H. & Lenora Rogers 1866 - 1885 John Dew Rogers 1835 - 1892 Unmarked grave. This cemetery was copied in 1975 by Mrs. Thelma Rogers Carmichael. I was originally told by a family member that the stones were moved in about the 1950s, but since the Cemetery Book indicates that Ms. Thelma Rogers copied them at the original location in 1975, they must have been moved to the church cemetery sometime after that date. I found them at the church when I moved back to this area in 1984. Per W.W. Sellers in his "History of Marion County" Celia Rogers, wife of Ebenezer Rogers, was the daughter of Barrett Barfield Senior, That would make her the sister of Barrett "Writ" Barfield Junior. I have found nothing in the records to confirm or to contradict this. According to 1850 Marion census Celia, wife of Ebenezer Rogers, was born circa 1813. All or most of this information, along with the location of Huggins Bridge, location of the Rogers Cemetery, etc., has been previously posted to the Marion list. I would urge any newcomers to the list, or anyone who has never taken the time to do this, to visit the Genweb search page for the SCMarion List Archives. There is a ton of data in the List Archives just waiting for you. http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/usa/SC/marion.html Go to the bottom of the page, and click on "Search the SCMARION Archives." Then select your year (1997 - 2001) and type in your search words. I just did a search for the year 2000 for "Rogers and Huggins" and had 24 hits. "Ebenezer and Rogers" for the same year turned up 16 hits. On the Marion County Genweb site, Victoria has a link, right in the middle of the page, to the List Archives Search Engine. If you use this link, you need to type in SCMARION when the next screen comes up. Regards to all, Jo Church Dickerson

Thank you. If it were not for people helping me, I would have given up years ago. In genealogy and in life. I hope I can help more. Sandra
