Victoria, you have done a great job with the Dillon site, plus all the site you work with and run. I admire your dedication to genealogy and thanks for providing us with sites to look for our ancestors and history. I grew up in Marion and I like to go to the site it brings back lots of good memories of my time there. Thanks again, Shirley Ann Turbeville Steele
Victoria, I agree with Donali. It does look great. Good work! Betty Jo

Hi All, There's a whole bunch of things I've been doing with the web sites and one of those is a total new look for Dillon County. Please stop by when you have a minute and tell me what you think. There are bound to be some things which "fell off" the site, still have much more to do, but I've added a few things you might want to look at: the Churches page has held my interest recently and I've added a map of Dillon Townships. I also found an interesting web site called "Roadside Attractions" and, of course, they had a fair amount on South of the Border. They also have an article on the "Peachoid" water tower up in Gaffney and a few other bits of Americana. You'll find a link to the site on the main page: <http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/1786/dillon.html> It's not genealogy but it is amusing and a bit of fun. Cheers, Victoria
I don't know about Sloan Soda's, but the owner of the Coca Cola Bottling Company in Marion was Cyrus T. Sloan (C.T. Sloan). The Sloans lived in a huge house on Withlacoochee Avenue in Marion. The old bottling company was on Railroad Avenue in Marion, across from what was then the Marion Star and the Railroad Depot. (I haven't been to Marion in many years so this is an old recollection!) I remember going there with my dad to pick up a case of cokes on many occasions. If you look at my website, Cousinconnections.com, there is a copy of a check from the Coca Cola Bottling Company (Actually the reason I bought that old check on EBay was because my family somehow was connected to the Farmers and Merchants Bank - but I can't find anyone who knows how - I just remember my grandfather mentioning it.) Anyway this check was written in 1914. I guess Mr. Sloan's father or grandfather owned the bottling company then. --Lisa ----- Original Message ----- From: "Victoria" <vproc@ix.netcom.com> To: <SCMARION-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 10, 2001 5:51 PM Subject: [SCMARION-L] Sloan Sodas > Hi ya'll, > > Does "Sloan Sodas, Marion, SC" ring any bells? > > The most interesting story/query came my way. Hi ya'll, Does "Sloan Sodas, Marion, SC" ring any bells? The most interesting story/query came my way. Someone found a heavy glass bottle, marked with the above, in the ocean at Myrtle Beach and I believe they're hoping to learn just how old, or new, the bottle would be. While it isn't genealogy, per se, it is interesting, I think, and I'd enjoy knowing more about what I assume is a local bottling company (like the ones in Dillon). Cheers, Victoria

Hello List, Chapter 4, Andrew(brother)50, is there a first name? And is there a date of this list? This is the first mention I have found of my ancestors in Marion co. Know they were there as they are in the 1810 census. Wondered also, are there any descendants of the Dillon family left there in the area? My ancestor Mary Leah Dillon's nephew was the James W Dillon who Dillon county was named for. Jim Andrew
