    3. The Marion Star, Wednesday, November 3, 1926 Mrs. Joanna Porter Snipes, wife of Edward Ikenor Snipes, died October 28th, and was buried the following day in the family plot at Rose Hill Cemetery in the presence of a crowd of sorrowing relatives and friends. Rev. Bedenbaugh conducted the funeral services. Mrs. Snipes was born in 1854, in the Spring Branch settlement and was of pioneer stock, being the daughter of Hapsey Lane Porter and James Porter, the granddaughter of Jas. Lane and great granddaughter of Capt. James Crawford, of Revolutionary fame. She was married to Edward, youngest son of Charity Ikenor Snipes and Richard Snipes in 1878. Besides her husband, and the following children, Mrs. Ikenor of Florida, Sumter, Walter, and Olin Snipes, of Marion, Mrs. Snipes leaves two brothers, Robert Pickett Porter and John Bethea Porter, of Marion. For several years Mrs. Snipes has been a subject of protracted affliction caused by an injury received in a fall and during all the long hours of her pain she has exibited a beautiful submission to God's will. "Through uncomputed space, I shall yearn, upward to the waiting face of God; the Heavens shall roll aside for me. As Moses monarched the dividing sea. This is my house, it is not I; Triumphant in the faith I live and die"

    3. I think that "EX" means "Exhorter", which I suppose is some kind of Preacher. The other abbreviations might be for Deacons, elders, etc. I don't know for sure. I know that James Campbell (1780-1842) was listed in Rev. Simeon Campbell's Diary as an "Exhorter" in the Methodist Church, so that is where I got that from. 1. [SCMARION-L] CRIBB Family Web Pages
    2. Marty Grant
    3. Hi all, I've just completed another project, this one on the Cribb families of Marion Co, SC. I've created web pages containing all the documentation that I have for most of the Cribb families in early Marion County, SC (pre 1900). This also includes some Cribbs in neighboring Columbus Co NC and some in Georgetown Co, SC (though much more work is needed on those in Georgetown). I have not done much with the African American Cribb families that were in Marion after 1870, but I'll work on them at some point in the future. Check out the pages if interested: http://www.martygrant.com/gen/cribb.htm As always, any comments, additions, etc., is welcome. 1. Re: [SCMARION-L] Miller's Church membership taken from The Dillon Herald
    2. Marty Grant
    3. I can identify most of the members listed, so perhaps can narrow down the date of this roster a little bit. I think it must be dated ca 1842-1846. I'll explain my rationale below. First of all, James Campbell, EX (Exhorter) was my ancestor, and he died in 1842, so the list was taken sometime after that. Of the others, here is what I have as far as dates: D. S. Edwards. L. D. (David S. Edwards 1800-1864) Richard Edwards, L.D. (Richard Edwards 1803-1869) James Campbell EX. Dead (James Campbell 1780-1842) Theophilus Campbell (1796-1860) Gadi Campbell (1784-1862) Jeremiah Campbell (1791-1865) D. Carmichael (Don't know who this was, there were several Daniels, Dugalds, Duncans, etc). Willis Huggins (1783-1857) Lewis Harrelson A. C. Carmichael (possibly Alexander C. 1826-1865) John Campbell Steven Smith William Oltman Based on the above death dates, I'd say this list was dated between 1842 (date of James Campbell's death) and 1857, date of Willis Huggins' death. As far as the females go, here is what I know (or think I know): Mary Campbell (1799-1887, wife of Gadi) Celia Campbell (c1808-1867, wife of Theophilus) Elizabeth Campbell (1794-1878, sister of Gadi, Jeremiah, etc) Patience Campbell (c1815-1866, wife of Jeremiah) Martha Edwards (c1805-1869, wife of David) Nancy Edwards (1800-1875, wife of Richard) Elizabeth Cribb (c1770/75-1853, widow of Thomas William Cribb) Molsey Campbell (c1792-1872, widow of James) Elizabeth Huggins (possibly Elizabeth c1818, dau of Willis) Martha Huggins (possibly Martha c1822, dau of Willis) Orrey Campbell (possibly Arabella 1819, dau of James) Samatha Cribb (c1816-1869, wife of Anthony) Susanah Martin Susanah Martin, Jr. Mary Carmichael Nancy Carmichael Celia Harrelson Sarah Harrelson Nancy Olston Sarah Edwards Sarah Perritt Addie Martin Armanthia Campbell (b 1827, dau of Gadi) Margaret Carmichael Emaline Campbell (b 1829, dau of Gadi) Mary Huggins Mary Bryant Mary Smith The key find in the females is that Aramantha and Emeline Campbell both were listed as "Campbell" here, though they married in 1846 (both of them), so that narrows the date of the list down ever further to ca 1842/1846. I don't think I can narrow it down any further.
