    3. Elona, Lewis HORTON of Marion/Horry Counties SC moved to Florida, too, sometime before the flu epidemic of 1919 in which he died. I think that date is correct. He may have moved there soon after 1890. He had a family but all contact with them was lost. Is there some website with the names of those whose lives were lost in the epidemic? 3. Cathy, I'm not related to the Price's, but my Rogers branch moved to Florida in the early 1900's to pick oranges. Maybe they thought they were going to make money. I think they first went to the Plant City area, but later settled in Suwannee County and then Columbia County. It would be interesting to know why other families came to Florida. I guess it has always had its appeal. 3. Cathy, The Price's weren't the only family to tie those two counties together in time. My GGrandfather, William David "Major" Lamb, moved to Marion County, SC around the mid-1800s and raised eight sons. Eventually, all eight sons moved to Marion County, FL (Anthony) and that's where most lived the rest of their lives. After Major Lamb's wife (Elizabeth Jane "Lizzie" Moody Lamb) died in Marion County, SC, he went to visit his sons in Florida and soon after died. I believe there children included John, Bob, Catherine Virginia, Mollie, Mary Etta (although I am not sure if Mollie and Mary Etta were the same person), and Doc. 3. >If there is any more information out there about Asa McKenzie I would love >to know. In the estate settlement of James Hays from the western side of the old county, there is mention of Agnes, daughter of James, who was married to Asa McKenzie. My guess is that Agnes would have been born between 1795 and 1810, making her a generation later than the Asa listed below, if I understand correctly that Dilla was born in the 1770's and imagine that her brother was about her age. I realize that the Asa listed could in theory have had a son or nephew named after him. I have tried to find Asa and Agnes, but without succcess. There is an Asa McKenzie listed in the 1860 census of Houston County, Texas, from South Carolina and as age 63, which would put him about the right time frame, but the wife listed is Jane (age 52 born in Tennessee). I don't know if the census taker could have recorded the state wrong and this was really Agnes Jane or if this is the wrong Asa or if Agnes had died and Asa remarried. In any case, it looks like Asa of Texas had been in Arkansas, where sons Alexander and Asa were born in 1838 and 1842, respectively. He was paying taxes in Benton County, Arkansas in 1839. Since Asa of Texas was from SC and the name is not so common, it could be that he is part of this McKenzie family I thought I'd throw in my two cents worth. Of course, I would love to know more. Good luck! Larry Jones From Phil Price: I have outlined the McKenzie family tree from what W. W. Sellers wrote in his >book "A History of Marion County South Carolina" from pages 236,237,238. >Sellers doesn't give a lot of dates and may have left out a lot of other >McKenzie's he didn't know. 2. Marty Grant
    3. Hi all, Does anyone have any ancestors or relatives who moved from Marion Co, SC area to Henderson Co, TN? The reason I'm asking is that I'm trying to trace my Uncle Sherrod Johnson (c1765/75) who was in Marion Co, SC until 1817, and disapears after that. At roughly the same time, a Sherrod Johnson appeared in Warren Co, TN (in 1820 census) and in Henderson Co, TN by 1830. I have a strong suspicion that they are one and the same person. He was dead before the 1850 census, apparently, but his probable son Sherrod Jr was still there, and born ca 1798 in SC, so that fits. He was in close proximity to several known Marion Co, SC families (in 1850 Henderson Co, TN), including lots of Moodys, and some Tarts and other familiar Marion County names, all of them born in "SC", so it seems reasonable that they might have came from Marion originally. Anyway, that is my question. Hope everyone is doing well! Marty Grant (Marvin Grant Jr) e-mail: public@martygrant.com AIM: MartyGrantNC web: http://www.martygrant.com

    3. I have some info on the McKenzies. In the 1860 census of Marion I found the Robert / Sarah McKenzie family as follows ==Robert 50, Sarah 42. Rebecca 16, Eli 14, Adeline 12, Allen 10, James 8, Franklin 6, Emerline 5, and Mary A 5. Apparently Sarah, David and John were already married at the time, I haven't investigated any further. Also from Sellers and the will of Robert McKenzie dated 9 Nov 1872 I have the following marriages. Rebecca m E C Moody, Eli m Dolly Spivey, Adeline m N P Gibson, Frank(lin) m Elizabeth Spivey and Emerline m Winget Spivey (my GGfather - both are buried in the Spivey family graveyard in Dillon Co SC) Do you have Mckenzie roots ? I can't say I have any connection to the Goodyear's or Harrelson's. I will have to check other records I have and see if there is something I have dismissed not knowing that there is a connection.
