    1. Re: [SCMARION-L] Cemeteries and Tombstone photographs
    2. Victoria, I'm a bit confused re: the "marking off of lots" in two of the cemeteries. In North Carolina, developers are required to notify descendents of those buried in grounds marked for development and to move known graves. In some areas, particularly in Currituck County, you will see small family burial grounds fenced off, surrounded by businesses, because it's too much trouble to actually move the graves. Is that not the case in South Carolina? And if not, who can we contact to change the laws? I find it abhorant that graves can simply be plowed over without consent. 3. As you may already know, a large number of cemeteries have been added to the Dillon/Marion/Marlboro/Robeson websites, courtesy of our "cemetery gals", Sandra Brumbles and Sheila Berry (with a little help from friends and family, including Mildred Hayes. These ladies are doing an incredible job and braving heat, storms, bugs, you name it, in the process. The cemeteries they've surveyed and sent transcriptions for, just since August 1st, are: Alford Cemetery Arnette Cemetery Cook Cemetery Elvington-Barfield Cemetery Grantham Cemetery Robert Pickett HAMER Sr. Cemetery Harrelson Cemetery Hayestown Cemetery Horne Cemetery PAGE - McCORMICK Cemetery (Solomon PAGE) Ray Cemetery (William) Rogers Cemetery Rozier Cemetery St. Mary's Cemetery St. Luke Cemetery Sherwood Cemetery Townsend Cemetery (and I've probably overlooked one or two) In addition, Sheila Berry, bless her heart, has been photographing many of the older tombstones and sending them along for the web site. I only know the names of two of his children, Stephen and Judith. Thank you so much for the information about Hodge in the War of 1812. I'm hoping to learn more about Hodge and when I do I will certainly send it to you. Thank you again, Carole

    3. Hi Carole, Welcome to our list! We've got a great bunch of folks here and I'm sure that sooner or later someone will turn up as a cousin. About your Hodge Middleton...I'm not a Middleton researcher but by coincidence, I was working today on the War of 1812 page for the Marion County SCGenWeb site and noticed Hodge Middleton listed in the 1814 muster roll of Captain Elisha Bethea's Company of Major Loveless Gasque's Battalion, 27th Regiment, S.C. Militia. Would this be your Hodge Middleton? If so, can you tell me a bit just a bit more about him for the web page? 3. Hi, Helen and everyone, In the funeral notice you so kindly passed along, I noticed a reference to Lizzie Huggins Davis, and I wonder if she could be the same Lizzie Huggins from the Marion County, SC area in my family. My Lizzie Huggins was the first wife of Lonnie O. King (1890-1931) and the mother of Rembert Lonzo King (1909-1969) and Pauline King (married name unknown). My Kings are a real mystery. So I hope there is a connection, and you can offer me some ideas or information.
