    3. NICHOLS Annie S. Rushing Annie Strickland Rushing, 64, wife of Jimmy Levoe Rushing, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at home after an illness. She was born Jan. 21, 1937, in Marion County, a daughter of the late Tolar Strickland and Dulah Barnhill Strickland. She was a homemaker and attended Floyds Free Will Baptist Church. She was first married to the late James M. Strickland. Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Jimmy Strickland of Raeford, N.C. and Gary Strickland of Mullins; two daughters, Florence S. Gerrald of Mullins and Princess Lynn Strickland of Nichols; a brother, Rea "Buddy" Strickland of Nichols; two sisters, Dulah Mae S. Martin of Aynor and Linda S. McLeod of Loris; two stepsons, Jimmy Lester Rushing of Mullins and Henry Rushing of Florence; a stepdaughter, DeRhonda Nobles of Mullins; eight grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Archie Strickland and Larry Strickland, and a sister, Sadie Strickland Carroll. Visitation will be at her home, on Hardwick Road in Nichols, where she will lie from 10 a.m. today to 2 p.m. Sunday. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Floyds Free Will Baptist Church. The Rev. Bruce Elliott will officiate. Burial will be in Old Zion Methodist Church Cemetery in the Zion community in Marion County. Cox-Collins Funeral Home in Mullins is in charge

    3. Margaret M. Owens Margaret Melton Owens, 79, widow of James Hoyt Owens, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at home after an illness. She was born April 26, 1922, in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Ada Register Melton. She was co-founder of Golden Years Nursing Home, now Marion Nursing Center. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse and a previous owner of a children's and ladies' dress shop in Marion. She was a member of Reedy Creek Baptist Church, where she was active in Women's Missionary Union and a former teacher of the Lillian Hilliard Sunday school class. Survivors include three daughters, Elaine O. White and her husband, Aubrey, Janet O. Brown and her husband, Jerry, and Shamra O. Richardson and her husband, Calvin, all of Marion; a sister, Addie Pope of Hartsville; seven grandchildren, Kevan White, Greg White, Jenny Brown, Donna White, Wade Gasque, Stefanie Richardson, and Laura Richardson; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Smith-Collins Funeral Home in Marion. The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Reedy Creek Baptist Church. The Revs. Darrell Floyd and Guy Langston will officiate. Burial will be in Reedy Creek Cemetery. The funeral will be at Cerro Gordo Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001. Burial will follow in the Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery, Chadbourn, N.C. Mrs. Wallace was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Wallace. She is survived by two sisters, Juanita S. Floyd and Betty S. Blackman and two brothers, Bobby J. Spivey and Thomas W. Mrs. Wheeler Monday, October 29, 2001, in St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Charleston. Born April 3, 1923, in DuQuoin, Ill., she was a daughter of the late Harley and Esther Miller Pyle. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Dr. William W. Wheeler. After graduation from Pinckneyville High School in Illinois and Pembroke University with a Bachelor of Arts in Education and the University of South Carolina with a Master of Arts in Education, Mrs. Wheeler worked with the Department of Social Services as a social worker. During her lifetime she was active in various civic and community organizations including the American Legion Auxiliary, the Pilot Club of Dillon and Yellow Jessamine Garden Club. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dillon where she was also a member of the Ladies Circle. Surviving are her son, Wayne and wife Frankie of Columbia; daughter Elaine and husband Alan Sanner of Charleston; daughter, Linda and husband Ronald Chambers of Marco Island, Fla.; granddaughters, Beth Luther, Amy (Mrs. Scott Wilford); three great grandchildren, all of Pennsylvania.

Born August 23, 1904 in Horry County, she was a daughter of the late Colon C. Grainger and the late Georgiana Sarvis Grainger. Miss Grainger was a homemaker and a farmer. She was a very active lifelong member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. Surviving are her nieces and nephews, Marie G. Tobin of Nichols, Miriam G. Mrs. Carter worked at Tomlinson's Department Store for 24 years. She was a longtime member of Marion Baptist Church. Surviving are her son, Terrell Carter of Chapin; daughter, Mary Mungo of Marion; brothers, Paul Rogers of Spartanburg, Doug Rogers of Mullins and Bobby Moody of Lake View; sister, Dorothy Binnicker of North Myrtle Beach; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.     2. In reply to rreese: I don't have any information about William Palmer. I don't believe he was associated with Bear Swamp Church, which is located in present day Dillon County, near Lake View and the state line. He is not listed in the church history. It's possible he was associated with Gapway Church, which is much closer to the Centenary area, but I really don't have any information on that. Have you tried searching the Marion Genweb site for Palmer? Also, there is a link there on church records. Centenary is in present day Marion County, several miles south of Mullins.     3. Oct 29, 2001 Robert Harold Gaddy LATTA -- Robert Harold Gaddy died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001 at McLeod Regional Medical Center. Mr. Gaddy was born in Latta, Aug. 9, 1919 a son of the late Walker L. and Ruby McLean Gaddy. He graduated summa cum laude from Washington and Lee University in 1940. He was a squadron commander and decorated B-17 pilot in World War II, attaining rank of Lt. Colonel. Mr. Gaddy was a past Chairman and Director of Latta Bank and Trust. He was a life long member of Latta United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Doris Nicholson Gaddy of the home; daughter, Dorothy (Tom) Bethea of Dillon; two sons, Dr. Robert (Debby) Gaddy of Florence and Mr. Richard (Becky) Gaddy of Latta; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Gaddy Coleman and Jane Gaddy Graham of Latta; two sisters-in-law, Alice B. Gaddy of Latta and Annie S. Gaddy of Columbia; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2001 at Latta United Methodist Church with burial in Magnolia Cemetery in Latta directed by Kannaday's Funeral Home of Latta.     3. I know there have to be a number of descendants of John Phillips and his wife Margaret Linton on this list! I descend from their grandson, Isaac Phillips and his wife Alice "Alsey" Eagerton. I am interested in tracing descendants of Isaac. He had 5 children, Ann, b ca 1802 m David Gibson; Frances, b ca 1804 m John Williamson; Phillip L. Phillips, b ca 1806 m ?Julia Ann Davis (this is according to Sellars, but was another Phillip Phillips that may be the one who married Julia Davis); Alice Phillips, b 1808 m William Collins; and Sarah Martha Phillips, b 1812 m Willis R. He was a lifetime dealer for the Ams Oil Co. and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Nesmith Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion. He was also a church usher, Sunday school secretary and attended Hemingway High School. He was the former owner of Hanna Engineering. Survivors include his wife, Ida Mae T. Hanna; five sons, Roger Hanna of Hartwood, Va., Nick Hanna of Woodbridge,Va., Rick Hanna of Middlethian, Va., John Hanna of Davidson, Va., and Terry Hanna of Richmond, Va.; two daughters, Alice Hanna of Richmond and Angela Hanna of Atlanta; a brother, Allen Hanna of Hemingway; a sister, Linne H. Bellflowers of Pamplico; a stepson, the Rev. Dale Tanner of Kannapolis, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Debra T. Martin of Georgetown; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.
