Ebenezer Rogers, his wife Celia Barfield and their daughter Indiana (she was my great grandmother) and her husband William Riley Butler. I have been told that Thelma Carmichael and her daughters Doris, Mary Mac, Flora Autrey and Hettie are all direct descendants of the Rogers line. Are you related to them? I plan to make a trip to the Dillon/Marion area to do some research and would love to get in touch with them. I can't seem to find anyone that has pictures of the Rogers or the Barfields. 3. Audrey, In Williamsburg County probate records there is a Margaret HAMBLETON who died 1816. In her will, the names Hamilton and Hambleton are used seemingly interchangably, but she mentions her: daughter Susan, living with Mr. James McConnell sister Jane Cockfield (** this is the line I'm descended from) sister Sarah McCants sister Martha Hambleton sister Elenor Flynn brother Robert Hamilton (his daughter Mary Matthews) brother William Hamilton (his sons John & William) brother John Hamilton (deceased) uncle Abraham Matthews I don't know who the parents of these siblings were, or where they came from. Do they look like any of yours? 1. Re: [SCMARION-L] Spyware and FTM
    2. OK Guys.. I'll tell you that you both are correct... It does have a nasty spyware section but... You can remove this easy...and while you are at it clean up lost of others on you system for free... You will have to download a piece of software.. Don't worry, its free and a good piece of work, It was made by a guy that hates spyware..which I might add is becoming more and more common.. I'm a university systems admin and don't recomend stuff often but this is a good product.. It's named AdAware and will find these Spys on your machine...even in the registry and clean then if you ask.. I have personally used this product and like it.. http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

    1. [SCMARION-L] Re: Marion County Surnames
    2. In reply to Melanie Young: I would be happy to try to help identify your Harrelsons if you send more detail. I descend from Benjamin Harrelson who died in Marion County in 1840. Don't know if I descend from his first wife (unknown) or his second wife and widow, Susannah Hyatt, daughter of Isaac Hyatt. His daughter, Martha Harrelson Thompson, my 2nd great grandmother, appears in census records with widely varying ages, thus no firm birthdate has been established for her, so don't know which wife she belonged to. There are folks on this list who know much more about the Hyatts than I do. I would be interested in hearing about any other lines we may have in common. You may write to me privately if you prefer. Afraid I don't have any experience with the genealogy charting programs, including FTM. Jo Chuurch Dickerson jochurchd@aol.com From: mlyoung1@flash.net (M. Young) I have some info on people with your surnames, except Church, Carmichael, and Elvington. They are mostly not my main lines, except Hyatt and Harrelson. I am also not sure which were in Marion Co., SC. I switched software databases and I have not figured out how to get it to tell me which people are from which counties, yet. I am using FTMaker. Do you know how to do that in that program?

    1. [SCMARION-L] Old versions of Family Tree Maker
    2. John Johnson
    3. List, Many of you use Family Tree Maker. Some of you are probably aware of a DSS Agent that loads into your registry when you use the Family Tree Maker software. This thing is called "spyware" by the computer geeks. This is a Learning Company thing. Family Tree Maker is no longer owned by The Learning Co/Boderbund/Mattel or whatever. So, the newest versions of FTM do not have this agent. If you own the latest version of FTM, I think it is 9.0, then I'm told that you do not have this DSS Agent. It appears that this spyware DSS Agent is loaded onto all of The Learning Company software and it allows Boderbund/The Learning Co. to have a link with your computer. I don't know much about how this agent works or whether any personal or sensitive information is accessed by Boderbund. I don't like such things being loaded onto my computer without my consent or knowlege, even though I supposedly agreed to it when I loaded the FTM software on my computer. I have FTM 7.0 and everytime I load my FTM program, this DSS Agent loads into my registry. I have been trying to permanently delete it but haven't been successful. I downloaded a patch from the Mattel/Learning Co. web site that was supposed to help me delete this agent but that patch didn't work. Also, while downloading the patch from The Learning Co. web page, I downloaded the NIMDA virus. You can download a free software called Ad-Aware from Lavasoft that will tell you if you have this DSS Agent or any other spy or ad products. You can upgrade to the latest version of FTM and will not have this agent in your computer. There are supposed to be ways to delete the thing but I haven't figured out how to do it yet other than delete FTM or upgrade the FTM program. If anyone knows anything more about this than I've posted here, or if I have any of this wrong, please let me know. JJohnson

    1. [SCMARION-L] Surnames
    2. John Johnson
    3. My maternal surnames are: CLEMONS (Robeson, Dillon, Marion, Horry): Samuel CLEMONS moved from Wake County to the border area of Robeson/Dillon (old Marion) around 1855. He was killed at the battle of Battery Wagner July 18, 1863. His wife was Grizzie Ann DANIEL, d.o. Thomas DANIEL and Mary SHIPP from Wake County. Samuel's children were: John Wesley CLEMONS (married Christian Eleanor (Nolie) MILLS); Mary Jane CLEMONS (married Alexander HORN); Henrietta CLEMONS (married John HUGGINS); and Samuel Henry CLEMONS (married Nora McCarthy HAYES). Grizzie Ann married Stephen Bright STANLEY after the death of Samuel. They had a farm near Lake View. After Stephen died, she married a HILL. Grizzie Ann is buried next to Stephen STANLEY at Bear Swamp Baptist Cemetery near Lake View. The wife of John Wesley CLEMONS was Christian MILLS. Her father, William MILLS, was probably from the Marion County area but was a blacksmith near the Robeson/old Marion County border around 1850. William Mills died in the war. The MILLS family lived near the OLIVERS in Robeson County. Thomas DANIEL also moved from Wake County to the Robeson/Marion area before he was killed in the war. His wife, Mary, died in or near Mullins. His son, William Henry DANIEL founded WH Daniel Supply and the Daniel Warehouse in Mullins. Another son, Leroy, was a merchant in Nichols and had a daughter that married A.B. NICHOLS. My wife's surnames are: COLLINS (Susan Charlotte b. 1859 near Mars Bluff, daughter of Charles COLLINS and Pricilla Ann LANGSTON); and EAGERTON (Charles Collins was the son of William COLLINS and Dorothy EAGERTON). These families were living near Mars Bluff, Jeffries Twp, in the late 1800s. My paternal surnames are: JOHNSON/JOHNSTON (Galivants Ferry/Lake Swamp area of Horry); MILLER (William Edwin MILLER, born 1813 near Wilmington, NC, taught school in Marion County in the mid-1850s. He married Caterine BROWN, d.o. Richard Brown, then Rachael Susan PORTER, d.o. James Crawford PORTER and Hapsey LANE); BLACKMON (Dillon Co. and Horry Co.); and CRAWFORD (David CRAWFORD, Galivants Ferry and I suspect Marion County). JJohnson Kingwood TX
