    3. It would also be a good idea when posting a query to not only give a name but an approximate date and location of the individual. Asking someone if they had records on a John and Mary Smith.... well, that could be anyone, anytime or anywhere. Precise information is not essential but at least enough to search on. 2. Winnette, I agree! This is a very good practice. New members will get more out of the group, if they provide this basic information in the subject line. If there are no names in the subject line, I will not open the mail. Someone will miss some chances to get an answer to their questions. The subject line should show a names and a dates. 1. [SCMARION-L] Marion Co. Surnames: BRIDGES, CAPLE, ROPER
    2. Mildred Venitucci
    3. Bill and list- I really need to read the Stackhouse book! This is what I have for my Benjamin Bridges, Sr., who married Rebecca Stubbs, in regard to the above-mentioned surnames. Benjamin Sr"s son THOMAS BRIDGES married SARAH ROPER before 1829 in Meriwether Co.,GA. Both buried in Macon Co. GA. Thomas born in Marion, SC children: Rev. Peter Bridges, Benjamin Bridges, John Bridges, William Jefferson Bridges, Elizabeth Bridges, Lucinda Bridges, James Madison Bridges, Mary Bridges, Thomas Bridges, Preston Bridges.. SARAH ROPER was the daughter of JOHN ROPER and MARGARET CAPLE, according to my documents. I have two children for them, SARAH and a brother FREDERICK. Whether this is the husband of Elizabeth, I do not know at this time. Benjamin Sr's dau. ELIZABETH BRIDGES married FREDERICK S. ROPER, b. North Rockingham, NC; married in Meriwether Co., GA. Eliz. Born in Marion, SC; son, Caswell Roper. Benjamin's dau. MARGARETT BRIDGES married WILLIAM CAPLE, b. NC, she b. Marion, SC; m. 07 Sept 1837, Meriwether Co.,GA; children: Thomas Calvin, Elizabeth, Betsy, William T., Lucinda, Gustus, Britton. How WILLIAM CAPLE is kin to MARGARET CAPLE, wife of JOHN ROPER mentioned above, I do not know. My line extends from Benjamin SR's son Benjamin Jr., who married MARY CIVAL HENAGAN in SC; they later moved to GA, then on to Little Rock, Arkansas, where they both died. Perhaps some Caple or Roper researcher could provide me with some dates for the above. Thanks- Mildred

    1. [SCMARION-L] Hulon Herring
    2. Does anyone have any information on a Charity Hulon married to a Miles Herring? A death cert for Samuel A Herring lists them as parents... I found a "Cherry"? Herring, listed as wife to Miles Herring in the 1870 census...she was either 25, or 35...I assume it is 35 as the children are from 4-11 years in age...but am not sure...and there is no listing for a Samuel in this census with them, but there is in the 1880 census with him being 17...so the name James? 7 yrs old could possibly be Samuel....(but in the 1880 census, there is no wife listed for Miles...so am thinking she died between 1870 and 1880... 3. Hello Lyles & Mary Harper, I am working on the McLeod/MacLeod , Alford, and McRae family lines, all of which were on the border area of Robeson, Dillon and Marlboro. How far back do you have on your McLeods, Alfords and McRae's? I am about to leave for a short stint at my shop this morning, but will be back after lunch. I have been doing genealogy for over twenty years. My great aunt was the historian for the Macleod Clan in SC for many years before her death. This line ties into the Jacob Alford line in Robeson and the old Roderic McRae line. There is another McLeod line in the Latta area I am familiar with, also. More later.
