Dennis: I am in process of compiling the 1880 Census for Legette Township and just today I found an Isadora Skipper, Age 6, daughter of Evander K, and Catherine E. Skipper. I wonder if this could be your Isadora. That is an unusual name? Would the age of this girl in 1880 fit? Francine >
Would any of you McAlister researchers happen to have a T.J. (Thomas Jefferson I think) b.c. 1836, wife Martha E., b.c. 1839 and/or a William J., also b.c. 1836, with wife Mary, b.c. 1840? They were in Williamsburg County, Lee Township, in the 1870 census, but if my speculations are correct, there were Marion County ties. Thanks! Donali

The November meeting of the Pee Dee Chapter of the SCGS will be held at the Marion County Archives & History Center. Sunday, November 11, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. Marion Archives is in the Old Records Building, corner of North Main Street & Godbold Street, beside the courthouse. Please use the Godbold Street entrance. Visitors, members, and their guests are welcome. Items for publishing in the Pee Dee Queue welcome. Hope to see lots of folks there. We missed you last month. Jo Church Dickerson
Jo, What is the feasibility of having the chapter meetings taped and sold to those of us who are members at a reasonable charge? I would absolutely love to be there for every meeting, but my health simply does not allow me to jump in the car and take off like I use to. Making the tapes available would be such a wonderful thing, especially the talks by the guest speakers. I would love to have a tape of the last meeting, and meant to ask if someone could tape it for me but let time slip by until it was too late. Would you consider proposing having the guest speakers taped, and tapes to be sold, at the next meeting? Thank you. Joanne Harley New Bern,NC harleyclan@coastalnet.com > >
Bill Snipes, All my McAlister family were gone from NC by 1862, so he wouldn't likely be in my line unless it was Gilbert McAlister's family who were still living near Tatum, in Marlboro Co., SC after 1905 at least. If you had his first name I may be able to help. For security reasons the Clan McAlister of America keep all data on McAlisters who were born after 1900 confidential, so no help there. Their marriage license should be available from the NC State Archives in Raleigh. I searched the Social Security Death Index and found a Vivian McAlister with SS #566-30-4016 whose last address was 95966 Oroville, Bute, California. She was born 25 Jun 1925 and died 21 Jan 1989 so she seems the likely candidate for being your Vivian Wright. The following is a letter form for getting a copy of her SS application which has a lot of information that should help. I would be grateful for any information on a Neill Graham in Marion County, alive in 1869? (There are no Graham researchers listed in the Marion RootsWeb pages!!!) I have recently found probate records indicating that my 2nd great-grandmother, Martha Bethea Sherrod, married Neill Graham after the death of my 2ggfather, Richard Sherwood (yes, a name morph from Sherrod to Sherwood). Richard died in 1863. Two records noted in Lucille Utley, "Marion County Probate Records, Vol. 3," point to this marriage: Roll #2134 Richard Sherwood.... Neill Graham and wife Martha filed petition 23 March 1869.... (page 227); Roll # 2121 William Bethea.... Warrant of Appraisement 7 Sept 1875.... Children of William Bethea and Sarah Bethea: ....Martha Graham... (page 225). So, they were married by March of 1869. I can find no record of them in the 1870 census (no surprise!). He may be dead by the Sept 1875 proceeding, as all of the other husbands are mentioned with the Bethea women heirs. Further, Martha, known as Patsy or Pat, is listed in the 1880 Marion County census as Patsy Sherwood with her son John (by Richard Sherwood) - she is no longer Martha Graham (Harlleesville Twp., H/H 239, next to her daughter, Sarah Ann Sherrod who married Wm. Davis - H/H 240). She is buried in the Bethea-Sherwood Sweat Swamp Cemetery near Little Rock, now Dillon County, SC. I have noticed many Neill Grahams in Robeson County, NC, and have checked all of the census records for them in 1870. None are the household in question. I did note an 1875 will in the NC Archives for a Neill Graham from Robeson - the date would fit the above picture. Would any Graham researchers happen to have or know of the particulars of this will? Thanks for any help you might offer. Bill Tate
