This link is to an Archive operated by South Carolina. http://www.state.sc.us/scdah/ On left had side click on "Records Indexes to Key Series Available On-line" This link will take you to. http://www.archivesindex.sc.gov On next page click the "Search Page" in lower right corner. Should be on this website now. http://www.archivesindex.sc.gov/search/default.asp -What I do is select -Database Select: All Database -1st Category Search : Individual Enter the 1st Individual, Location, Topic or Document Type: Burch, The comma on end let you select only Burch not Burchs. Another word if I used "Hunt," I would only get Hunt and not include Hunter or Huntt. You can use like "Burch, J" and get all Joseph, James, John etc -Boolean Search Option: This can be left alone but if you want to see if there was a connection between two people you would use "AND" I did this to see if Burch had any connection wiht surname Hunt. -2nd Search category: This can be useful if you wanted to break down the area he is in. Such as using "Cheraw" for all Burch "and" Cheraw . This would return all data about Burch in Cheraw County and District. Cheraw can be changed to Marion, Marlborough, Liberty etc. It is not required to fill any parameter from Boolean search and below you can still search just using the first three fields. If this isn't clear feel free to email me off list. Enjoy Allen Hunt [email protected] wrote: > Thank you so much for all this information. As busy a man as Joseph Burch was, I've been very surprised not to have found more information about him and his family. I keep thinking I'm just not looking in the right places. I happen to be trying to find other folks in the Hunt surname for genetic genealogy specifically Y-DNA which is paternal line only. I had thought recently I would find a distanct cousin in Union County who believes they themselve descend from Christopher and Catherine Hunt who came to Cheraws in late 1700s. Unfortunately we do not match and currently do not know who line either of us are from. I would still agree that they could possibly still be from Christopher as I am not 100% on my end at this time. Reason still trying to find paper and genetic matches. Their line is Samuel D. Hunt b 1790 in Union County, SC they believe he is the son of William Hunt who is son of Christopher Hunt. It sure is really difficult to do any paper hunting from California. One note is so far there is not Y-DNA paternal line documented publicly of American Indian marker result. This does not mean you are not American Indian as it could be on the maternal line. Person of my interest where listed as Mulatto and was owner of land which is not in Marlboro County or Darlington. But all the records from 1800 are in Marion District or Marlboro County. Another question is regarding Liberty County which county inherited document from this county when it cease to exist? Allen Hunt And David I wish you luck in finding someone willing or can assist you in your genetic genealogy quest. -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: "DAVID THOMPSON" <[email protected]> > Has any male Pace from Pee Dee area looked into this? Anyway I had fun looking up al lthe land plat. He was a very busy man dealed in a lot of land transaction. Interesting thing he had nothing to do with Hunt surname and yet he dealt in land all around the area of interest to me. He dealt in land in Cheraw District, Liberty County, Marlborough District and Marion District. I am very impress. Thank you for all this information. Some I've seen or have; others I'll have to find. You asked: You do not say exactly which part of the Pee Dee you are interested in.. but each county has other sources of information. Luke Whitfield and his brother Matthew Whitfield were both born in NC and moved to Cheraws Dist., SC date unknown. Matthew b. abt. 1717 and Luke b. 2/19/1719. Both supposedly married women by the name of Warren, unproven. Matthew's wife was named Anne and Luke's wife was named Chloe. Matthew's daughter Betsey married Aaron Daniel and they moved to Tattnall Co., Ga. Matthew may have had a son named Matthew who was married to a woman named Greenland (I haven't been able to determine who this particular Matthew is, he's listed as Matthew Jr and Matther the younger). Luke died bet. Aug 29, 1767-Dec 11, 1767 per his will. He died in Prince George Parish, Craven co., SC Luke's children were: Luke Jr. who was a Lt. in Rev. War from St. David's Parish. Supposedly married Rachel Powell, daughter of Gen. George Gabriel Powell. No proof found. Unknown if they had children. Elizabeth married Charles Moody abt. 1767 in Prince George Parish SC. Charles Moody fought in the Rev. War The younger males were sent to NC to live with William and Constantine Whitfield, Luke's brothers. Penelope married Charles King abt. 1786 and they moved to Madison Co., Al. Terecy is supposed to have married Thomas Sutton of North Carolina, no proof found Thomas served in Rev War. Married and in 1790 was probably in Prince Georges Parish with 3 WM 16 and over; 2 WM under 6; and 6 WF. No further info on him. William was b. abt. 1759 in NC. He served in Rev. War. He's in the 1790 census for Prince Georges Parish and it appears to be him and his wife. In the 1800 & 1810 census he's in Marion Co., SC He served in the State Senate in 1798 and 1810-1813 and the House from 1796-1799; 1802, 1814-1815. His wife's name was Elizabeth and she may have been married before to a man named Hodges (per will of Henry Hodges, identified as his step son). William's son was George B. and was b. Marlborough Dist. date unknown. He married twice: Ann unknown and had William Samuel Whitfield b. 1817 either in SC or Georgia, and Emily Whitfield b. abt. 1815 in SC and married Henry August Vessey and they moved to Ga. and then Mississippi. George B.'s second wife was Elizabeth Unknown and they had Henry Hodges Whitfield 1826 in Putnam Co., Ga. Matthew Whitfield b. abt. 1752 and supposedly died during the Rev. war. No further information. Benjamin Whitfield b. 1752 (not twins) in NC and moved to Georgia. Served in Rev. War in SC No further info on him in SC Lewis Sr. (my ancestor) was probably the youngest and born bet 1750-1760 in either North or South Carolina. He was at the Fall of Charleston in 1780. Sometime between 1789-1790 in Burke Co. Ga. No further inforamtion on him in SC. Name of wife unknown Thanks to all of you who answered my question about Books available to me. I have some, researched at few and will need to order a few. Mary Ellen
We have a unique and interesting Pace lineage. My husband is a Pace, his father hails from Sumter, his Grandfather (Jimmie Edward) left home in his teens and had no contact with his birth family. I know of one brother (Abijah a.k.a. Byger) Bother listed their mother's name on their SS application as Julia. Jimmie stated that his father was unknown and that he used his mother's name, and Byger listed his father's name as Henry. (Family suspects that this was Henry Tanner) I have found a possible Julia Pace in the 1880 Cencus. If I am correct her mother's name was Susan and she had a half brother named Jackson. But this hasn't been proven. I'm curious to hear if there is any other Pace research going on in the Marion area. Patti Pace --------------------------------- Yahoo! Thank you for this information. I'll try to find them on the internet. Mary Ellen
Greetings all, and for this post, especially PACE descendants-- As you may know, most all Pace's that trace their roots to old upper Marion county/today's Dillon county and surrounding Pee Dee area hail from George Pace who came to Marion/Dillon area before 1810. However, the trail went cold with George and little was seen that linked him to other Paces. Recent evidence has come to light as to the George Pace line (VA>NC>SC) and his ancestors all the way to Jamestown (1607 time-frame). It would be interesting to hear from Marion/Dillon Pace cousins and any research they might have uncovered? Additionally, there is a Pace DNA project that can allow a representative of the George Pace line to compare and map our specific line to others and the original Paces in Colonies/USA and back. This kind of tool can be key especially as little paper evidence exists. Has any male Pace from Pee Dee area looked into this? I can't do it because my gr-grandmother was a Pace, born to William James Pace of Dillon, and it only works for paternal male line. I would be happy to help facilitate (and even fund) this simple process as a DNA sample from a male Pace that is from Marion/Dillon area would be invaluable in piecing this branch together with main Pace line. Thanks, David
