MULLINS — Mrs. Frances E. Rogers, age 92, died Wednesday, March 1, 2006, in Marion County Medical Center. Born September 28, 1913, in Mullins, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Burns and Frosty Belle Cooper Edwards. She was a graduate of Mullins High School and Tusculum College in Greenville, Tennessee, and received her Master’s of Education at U.S.C. She was married to the late Pearsall L. Rogers who was instrumental in forming the local Army National Guard, served in World War II and was postmaster in Mullins until his retirement. When her husband was called into military service, she assumed his position of County Superintendent of Education for a brief period. Her ardent support of Clemson University, her husband’s alma mater, was legendary. Mrs. Rogers taught in Zion, Nichols, Floyds and Mullins High Schools before becoming associated with Marion County Vocational School in the field of marketing. She became supervisor of marketing for the State Department of Education in Columbia until her retirement. Other offices she held were president of Marion County Education Association and president of Vocational Education Association for S.C. She was designated a Kentucky Colonel in 1976. After retirement, she aided in the formation of the volunteers program for District 2 Schools. An accomplished organist and pianist, she taught young musicians in the Mullins area through the years, as well as served Macedonia United Methodist Church as organist, choir director and pianist. She was noted for her original and professional musical programs in schools and churches. Mrs. Rogers was a member of Marion County Education Association, Mullins Choral Club, Delta Kappa Gamma and Mullins Chamber of Commerce, as well as a member of Amelia McCormick Circle of her church. She was recognized as “Mullins Citizen of the Year” and “Vocational Educator of the Year.” She is survived by two daughters, Fran Rogers Drew of Florence, Kathy Harris and her husband, Al, of Murrells Inlet; three grandchildren, Mia Drew, Ted Harris and Charles P. Harris; two great-grandsons, Keith and Mason Harris; and one sister, Ruth Anderson of Mullins. She was predeceased by a sister, Nancy Winn and five brothers, John Walton Edwards, Percy Edwards, Cooper Edwards, Burns Edwards and Albert W. Edwards. Visitation will be held Friday, March 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Meares Funeral Home. Funeral will be Saturday, March 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Macedonia United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Cedardale Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Macedonia United Methodist Church, 402 N. Main Street, Mullins, SC 29574. DILLON — Mrs. Linda S. Altman, 62, died Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at the residence. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2006, at First Baptist Church of Dillon with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, directed by Kannaday’s Funeral Home of Dillon. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Dillon from 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2006. Mrs. Altman was born October 9, 1943, in Marion, SC, a daughter of the late Olin and Louise Snipes Smith. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class, was secretary of the class, and also served on the Seniors Adult Committee. She was a homemaker. Surviving are her husband, William Eugene “Gene” Altman, Jr. of the home; daughter, Tammy West and husband, Steve, of Charleston, SC; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerrell and Libby Smith of Gresham, SC, Dennis and Diane Smith of Marion, SC, and Pauline Smith of Timmonsville, SC; sister, Debbie Smith of Marion, SC; grandchildren, Cody McLellan, Stephen West and Kristin West, all of Charleston, SC; special friends, Vivian and Jeanette Lane of Marion, SC; and 11 nieces and nephews. Seeking information of Arrington CAIN, born 1776. He shows up in the 1840 and 1850 Census in Marion County. Deed abstract in 1832 shows he and wife Lany in sale of land in Marion County to Isham Watson. Arrington CAIN may have been born in Bladen County, NC where he sold land inherited from his father, John CAIN. John CAIN, born 1750s on Little Pee Dee shows up in Bladen County with father William and brother John (our line) before the Revolution.

MULLINS — Mrs. Virginia Ervin Dadds, 72, widow of Roland O. Dadds, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2006, at McLeod Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, March 3, in Devotion Gardens Cemetery, with the Rev. Glenn Brown officiating. The services will be directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home. Mrs. Dadds was born Aug. 15, 1933, in Kent County, Md., a daughter of the late Thomas and Lula Mae Kemp Ervin. She retired from Anderson Brothers Bank. Mrs. Dadds was a member of Woodlawn Park Baptist Church. Mrs. Pearl Louise Richardson Shannon, departed her life on Sunday, February 26, 2006, at the Marion County Medical Center, Marion, SC. Pearl was born October 14, 1930 to the late Mr. Edwin and Lousetta Gause Richardson. Pearl was educated in Marion County Training School, graduating as class Salutatorian. She attended SC State University, then later attended Coastal Carolina University, where she received an Associate Degree in Nursing. (RN) Pearl was united in Holy Wedlock to the late Mr. Lee Carroll Shannon and to this union four children were born: Augustus and Linda Preceded her in death. Precede also in death Grandchildren Ronald (Bam) Shannon, Jr and Dreama Shannon. Pearl was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, where she served as a member of Missionary Department and Usher Board until her health failed. Pearl held serval Nursing positions: Finger Clinic, later renamed Palmetto General Hospital, English Park, and retired from Jenkins Nursing Home. She leaves to cherish her loving & fond memories: two children: Ann Carole Gerald of the home and Ronald (Ella) Shannon Sr of Marion S.C. One adopted daughter: Sheree Fortune of Albany, NY. One brother Erwin (Christine) Gause of Fairmont, N.C. One sister: Queen Abrams of Red Springs. KINGSTREE | Sara Jane Driggers Prosser, 80, widow of Henry E. Prosser, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2006 in a Kingstree hospital. Mrs. prosser was born July 22, 1925 in Florence County, a daughter of the Joseph K. and Sabry Parrott Driggers. She was a graduate of Williamsburg County schools and was a homemaker. Mrs. Prosser was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church and was an honorary member of Disabled American Veterans Auxillary. She was preceded in death by a son, Bryce Prosser. Surviving are two sons, Carroll E. (Toni) Prosser of Myrtle Beach and Dennis L. DARLINGTON — Charles F. Holden, 73, of Darlington, died suddenly Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, in a Florence hospital. He was born in Marion, a son of the late James Noah and Irrie Turner Holden. He was a member of the Church of God in Ninety Six, a union representative of the Communications Workers of America, was employed by AT&T Western Electric, a member of Clinton Masonic Lodge No. 3 in Abbeville, a member of the Oasis Shrine in Charlotte, N.C., and an alumni board member of the John de la Howe Boys Home School in McCormick. He was a U.S.Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Poston Holden of the home; sons, Mark (Candy) Holden of Stanley, N.C., and Jason Holden of Charlotte, N.C.; brothers, Inell B. RAINS — E. Dalton Evans, husband of Lula Mae Powell Evans, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2006 in Marion County Medical Center after an illness. Mr. Evans was born in Lake City, a son of the late Luther and Sulie Yarborough Evans. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a retired farmer and plumber. Mr. Evans was a member of Rains Free Will Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon of the Year. Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are two daughters, Dale(Duncan) Drew of Marion and Dean (Donnie) Misenheimer of Mullins; a son, Barry (Becky) Evans of Galivants Ferry; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters- in-law, Ruby Evans of Hamer and Margaret Sweat of West Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, at the Chapel of Morris Funeral Home in Hemingway. Interment will follow in the Garden of Devotion Cemetery in Johnsonville.
