    1. Wright BASS & CRAWFORD/TART connection
    2. Dear Allen, Thank you so much for your 2 answers to my query re a Mrs. James CRAWFORD being buried in a TART Cemetery. In a message dated 5/7/06 6:00:46 PM Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: > (1 Msg): I was thinking about you today. I ran across a Right Bafs Will in > a book. > I figured it was Wright Bass. I will go look at it again and see if has any > TART information. Wright Bass appointed John Tart and Henry Berry as excutor > of the Will And a N. TART was witness of the Will > > (2 msg): Seem like a valid connection. I am not aware of cemetery > connections. > > Allen Hunt According to records you are absolutely right about Wright BASS's will. I'm sure this will help others who are researching this family. Thanks again for your help. Winkie Dear List, WHILE WE'RE ON THIS SUBJECT, LET ME ELABORATE AND ASK FOR YOUR HELP ONCE AGAIN ON THIS SUBJECT. Here is my query once again from an eM correspondent "buried in a burial place somewhere and that that is considered to be Mrs. James CRAWFORD in a TART family-connected graveyard, not a CRAWFORD one." Correspondent also wrote " Probably never be able to find the report that led to this belief. And, if it was just a belief, not a fact. If there is anyone who has knowledge of a Mrs. James CRAWFORD being burried in a TART cemetery, or any cemetery I would certainly appreciate hearing from you on the list , or directly. My records show Mary TART (d/o Enos TART d. 1801, copy of will on Marion Co website, Victoria hostess), was named in Enos' will as Mary CRAWFORD. Further records revealed the facts above which Allen sent me about TARTS being named as executor & witness. My records further show Widow Mary CRAWFORD marr Wright BASS but wasn't named in his will (I Transcribed 2 wills re Wright BASS, which are shown on Marion Co Website, Victoria hostess). Wright BASS named an Elizabeth as wife (although I have begun to think that possibly Mary's name was "Mary Elizabeth." Anyone who knows of a 3rd marriage for Wright Bass, please let me know. I'm going on the assumption of Wright's having had his son, Right BASS, by a 1st wife and Mary (TART) Crawford, widow as his 2nd and/or last wife, with the possibility that her name was "Mary Elizabeth" (TART) CRAWFORD. It is my wish that among the researchers (BASS, TART, CRAWFORD) online, we may make a breakthrough.        Thank you for your help as always, Winkie CRAWFORD Robinson

    1. Old Handwriting Tips
    2. Edna Cheatham
    3. In case we have all forgotten, here is a friendly tip when reading old handwriting: Over 100 years ago the "s" was often written like a backward "f." This strange symbol for "s" was used very commonly in instances where there was a "double s." The unusual s first, called the "leading s." Then the regular s. For example the name Jesse is often transcribed as Jefse. Thought this might help everyone. Edna

    3. Marion County was just one of the many counties that the Hartman's transcribed wills for and I have bought several things from them and have been extremely pleased. It's wonderful when the information we are seeking is on line for free but there are many times it is not. I have bought publications from SC and NC genealogy societies and from individuals and I'm grateful they were available for purchase. I give much praise and thanks to all who have volunteered to help put free information on line and to those who have written CD's and books. We need all of it to help try to solve out brick walls :-) Without the help of all the wonderful genealogy researchers I would have never been able to get as far as I have with my own family ties. 3. I have visited this site am can only commend the persons responsible for posting all this information. To be able to read all these wills without having to go to the courthouse or read the microfilm is wonderful. Most of the places to the research is only open during the day when I am at work. I think this is great. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Victoria" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, April 30, 2006 5:44 PM Subject: Re: [SCMARION-L] new web page > Hi all, > > This is a COMMERCIAL web site offering to SELL you the Wills > from Will Books A and B (1796-1855) that are already online > and FREE at the Marion County website: > http://sciway3.net/proctor/marion/ > > For those of you who are new to the list, a group of us worked > over the course of a year to get all of these same Wills transcribed > and online for researchers.
