MULLINS — Mrs. Ruth Edwards Anderson, age 94, died Saturday, May 20, 2006, at her home in Mullins. She was the widow of the late Ernest L. Anderson. Mrs. Anderson was first married to the late Colonel Charles T. Holland of Greenville, TN. Mrs. Anderson was the daughter of the late Arthur Burns and Frosty Belle Cooper Edwards. After much traveling, she returned to her hometown, Mullins, SC in 1951. She has been active in many local affairs. She was an active member of Macedonia United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Green Thumb Garden Club; an avid admirer of music arts and flowers. Mrs. Anderson met her first husband, Colonel Charles Holland, in Greenville, TN, where she attended Tusculum College. She always had great concern and care for less fortunate people. She was loved by everyone who knew her. Mrs. Anderson is survived by a stepson, Bert Neal Anderson and his wife, Betty, of Mullins; three stepgrandsons, Neal Anderson and his wife, Joyce, of Hemingway, Tommy Anderson and his wife, Cindy, of Mullins and David Anderson and his wife, Pam, of Mullins; two nephews, Arthur burns Edwards II and his wife, Kathy, of Rock Hill and Charles Breeden and his wife, Roberta, of Wisconsin; three nieces, Fran R. Drew of Florence, Kathy Harris and her husband, All, of Murrells Inlet, Mrs. Marshall Dadds and her husband, Jay, of Mullins. A special thanks is given to a dear friend, Gwen James and to the caregivers of Mrs. Anderson. Mrs. Anderson is preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Rogers, Nancy Winn and Isabelle Edwards. Also, five brothers, Cooper Edwards, Albert Edwards, Burns Edwards, Walton Edwards and Percy Edwards. Graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. in Cedardale Cemetery, Rev. Bruce Sayre officiating. In lieu of flowers, her desire was to do a kind deed for someone in need. Meares Funeral Home of Mullins has been given the honor of serving the family of Mrs. Anderson.

He was pre-deceased by three brothers, G.O. Smith Jr., Edward Smith and Douglas Smith. He and his brother (Dan) were the owners and operators of the Windy Hill Hardware for over thirty five years. He was a member and former deacon of the First Baptist Church of North Myrtle Beach, and an active member of the North Myrtle Beach Lions Club. Don was recently inducted into the S.C. Lion's Club Hall of Fame. He graduated from Wampee High School and attended North Greenville Junior College. Survivors include his wife, Gayle Y. Smith; his children, Donald R. Smith Jr., and wife, Katrena, of Little River, and Elizabeth S. Humphreys and husband, Jac, of North Myrtle Beach; two brothers, Thomas William Smith of Charleston, and his twin, Daniel R. She was born on October 22, 1916, in Hamer, South Carolina, the daughter of the late E.P. and Katie Elkins Lee. She lived most of her life in Mullins where she was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a Sunday School Teacher, RA Leader, BTU Teacher and very active in the music ministry. She was a talented pianist and played in churches for many, many years. After she moved to Dillon, she transferred her membership to First Baptist Church of Dillon. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Hagood Curry, to whom she was married for 64 years; one sister, Clara L. Small; three brothers, Neil C. Lee, Roy J. Lee and Ralph Sikes Lee. She is survived by two sons, H. Lee Curry and wife Martha, of Charlotte, North Carolina and Charles E. Curry and wife Jenny, of Dillon; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Jean Hunsinger of Latta, South Carolina; and brothers, William C. Lee, Franklin D. Lee and Jack C. MULLINS — Julian Poindexter “Andy” Anderson, age 85, died Sunday, May 14, 2006, in Marion County Medical Center in Mullins. He was born June 28, 1920, in New Canton, Virginia, the son of the late Herbert Baker and Louvenia Frances Davis Anderson. Mr. Anderson was a charter member of the Mullins Rural Fire Department and Rescue Squad. Rural and City Fire Chief of the Mullins Fire Department, he was a volunteer fireman for over 60 years. He was a former Mullins City Councilman. Mr. Anderson was Post Commander and a Life member of the American Legion Post 89. He was an active member and deacon of Mullins First Baptist Church, always at the service of his friends and fellow men. He was a retired Life of Georgia Ins. agent for over 30 years. Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sue J. Anderson; one son, Julian P. “Stoney” Anderson, Jr. of Myrtle Beach and one daughter, Susan P. Anderson of Richmond, Virginia; one foster grandson, Joey Prach of Virginia; special friends, Edward McGraw, Robert and Valerie Wortham, Dallas and Cheryl Platt. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 16, at Meares Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be Wednesday, May 17, at 11:00 a.m. at Mullins First Baptist Church. My mother, in her last years, took hundreds of old photos from the end of the 1800s through 1950 and wrote on the back the name of each person (in pencil). We should all be so diligent.
