Mike was born in Marion County, a son of the late Clifton W. and Pearl Floyd Collins. Mr. Collins was a farmer, a lifelong member of Pleasant View Baptist Church, and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Olivia Libby Evans Collins of the home; sons, Robert and David Collins of Little River, S.C.; Devan (Neel) Shah, Atlanta, Ga., and Lindsey Collins of Nichols, S.C.; brothers, C.W. Butch Collins, Jr. of Florence, Glenn (Wanda) Collins, Smithfield, N.C., and Tim (Millie) Collins of Florence; sister, Cathy (Al) Erwin of Pamplico. Funeral services will be held at Pleasant View Baptist Church, Nichols, S.C. on Friday, June 20, 2008 at 4:00 P.M. with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery. Mr. Strickland was born in Horry County, South Carolina, the son of the late William David Strickland and Susan Williamson Strickland. He was a Mason in Loris Masonic Lodge No. 205, Ancient Free Masons, and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, having received a Purple Heart. He is survived by his wife, Lillie G. Strickland of Nichols; five sons, David Strickland of Savannah, Ga., Robert "Bob" Strickland of Tabor City, N.C., William Shelley and Roger Shelley, both of Florence, and Thomas Shelley of Aynor; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Joseph Shelley. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2008 in the Inman Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Phil Fischbach.     2. NICHOLS | Joseph Howard Hammond, 87, of Nichols, died Wednesday, June 11, 2008 in the Carolina's Hospital after an illness. Mr. Hammond was born in Horry County, South Carolina, a son of the late Guthrie Berry and Grace Watson Hammond. He graduated from Floyds High School, and was a survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack while serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Hammond was a lifetime member of the Causey Hunting Club and a member of the American Legion, and was a member of the Spring Branch Baptist Church. He was a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William Watson Hammond; and one sister, Bernice H. Ludlum. Surviving are his wife of over 60 years, Virginia Elliott Hammond of the home; sons, Garrie Hammond of Boone, N.C., and Tim (Deborah) Hammond of Florence; and one daughter, Joyce (Ronald) Fogle of Nichols. He is also survived by grandchildren, Bobby Bullard and Brad (Sierra) Bullard of Nichols, Scott Hammond of Atlanta, Bob (Abby) Hammond of Nashville, Tenn., Dewayne Hammond of Lexington, Joey (Pansy) Hammond of Aynor, Rebecca (Billy) Reid of Irmo, and Rachel Hammond of Sumter; and seven great-grandchildren.     2. Mr. Leon Samuel Gerald, 77, of Marion, died peacefully on Saturday, June 7, 2008. Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, June 14, 2008, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Devotion Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Gerald was born in Marion County on June 30, 1930, to the late Reverend Arthur and Mrs. Gertrude Johnson Gerald. He attended the public schools of Marion County and graduated from Marion County Training School. His was a devout Christian family, and he attended Centerville Baptist Church as a youth. After graduating from high school, Mr. Gerald served in the US Marine Corps for two years. His active military service ended in 1953, whereupon he entered Benedict College and earned a BS degree in mathematics and science. He then began a twenty-eight-year career as a mathematics and science teacher in the SC public school system. While employed as a teacher at Mullins High School, he earned an MS in mathematics from SC State University. In 1957, Mr. Gerald married the former Miss Delaware McNeil, and to this thirty-year union five children were born: Mrs. Del Resia Gerald Brand (Terry) of Irmo, Mr. Steven L. Gerald of Atlanta, Mrs. Wanda Gerald Kiah (Michael) of Atlanta, Mrs. Leonora Gerald Brock of Charlotte, and Miss Sheri Gerald of Marion. Two grandchildren also survive: Tiffany Jane Brand of Columbia and Anthony Steven Brock of Charlotte. In February 2008, Mr. Gerald married the former Mrs. Nancy Phillips Paige. With this marriage, he became stepfather to Andre Phillips, Tyrone Paige, and Jerrod Paige. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Nancy P. Gerald; five children; two grandchildren; three stepchildren; sisters Mrs. Martha Shannon of New York, Mrs. Ruth Weeks of Marion, Mrs. Eleanor Ann Davis (Jerome) of Florence, Mrs. Lillian Milford (Carnell) of Marion, Mrs. Pernella Donkor of Marion, Mrs. Rosa Lee Pender of Marion, Mrs. Alexenna Alexis ( Y Von) of New York, Mrs.Theresa Francis of New York; brothers Mr. James Gerald (Barbara) of Fayetteville, Mr. Ata Shabazz (Miniiah) of Winnsboro, McMillian Gerald (Cathy) of New York; and numerous relatives and friends. Mrs. Crawford was born May 3, 1924 in Horry County, S.C., a daughter of the late William Edwards and the late Minnie Richardson Edwards. Mrs. Crawford was a graduate of the Mullins Hospital School of Nursing, where she earned her L.P.N. degree. She was also an active homemaker and a member of Reedy Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Gift was born December 16, 1931, in Marion County, a daughter of the late Ephraim Clark Sinclair and the late Temperence Glasgow Sinclair.     2. MARION — Clayton L. Sellers Sr., founder of Swamp Fox Signs, which he and his son later worked together before his retirement. He had retired, but would occasionally assist his son until he became ill. Clayton Sr., who was the youngest son of his siblings, at the age of twelve, dropped out of school to help support his mother, after his father was killed saving a young girls life. He was employed briefly as a night Maintenance Worker for the Marion Hotel; he sold bags of peanuts on the streets and also started his own shoe shine business by purchasing a shoe shine box. He later worked for The Coca Cola Bottling Company where he was employed as a sign painter. Discovering he had a great talent, and not putting limitations on himself, just because he had dropped out of school. So at the age of 21 and after working two years for the company, Clayton Sellers Sr., a self-taught-man left the Coca cola Bottling Company and started the his own sign business, his biggest contract was with The Coca Cola Company. Clayton Sr. was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where he was a Trustee Member and a Choir Member. He enjoyed doing solos. Clayton L. Sellers Sr., biggest enjoyment was making others happy by keeping them laughing. Mr. Sellers Sr., 81, of Marion, died early Monday morning peacefully at his home. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gladys Sellers, two daughters, Mrs. Doris E. Isreal (Robert), Emily L. Berry; and son Clayton L. Sellers Jr., eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a host of family and friends. Services will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church 230 S. Main Street Marion, SC, at 3p.m. on June 8, 2008, Pastor Shawn V. Bell will officiate. Arrangements are being handled by the Jackson-McGill Funeral Services 612 S. Main Street in Marion, SC.     2. NICHOLS — Mrs. Sally Janie Stroud Gerrald, 71, died Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, June 7 at the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with Rev. Ricky Donaldson, Rev. Paul Alford and Rev. Willie Gillard officiating. Burial will follow in Cedardale Cemetery. Mrs. Gerald was born February 13, 1937 in Marion County, a daughter of the late Marcus and Edith Godbold Stroud. She was a retired farmer, a homemaker and an avid fisherman. Mrs. Gerrald was the widow of Kenneth G. Gerrald and Robert Lee Hill and the mother of the late Robert Levon Hill. Surviving Mrs. Gerrald are: a Daughter: Alice Faye Rowell of Nichols; a Son-in-Law: Ronnie Rowell of Nichols; a Beloved Grandson: Robert Andrew Atkinson of Nichols; a Beloved Sister: Agnes Collins of Nichols; and 2 Sisters-in-Law: Elizabeth Hill Holden and Laura Mae Martin, both of Conway. Mrs. Gerrald was predeceased by a brother, Marcus Stroud. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 7 til 9 P.M. at Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
