    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AgB.2ACI/814.1 Message Board Post: He's hard to find in the primary sources, because the Lexington Carl/Karle family hadn't yet adopted the Corley spelling. In "Accounts Audited of Claims Growing Out of the American Revolution" at the SC Department of Archives and History, you'll find him listed as Laurence Charles (File No. 1208), following Frederick Charles (File No. 1207) and preceding Michael Charles (File No. 1209). By the 1790 Census, they were listed as Lawrence, Frederick, and Michael Corley. A Lexington County property transfer of 10 Jun 1830 from Thomas Corley is abstracted in the Lexington Genealogical Exchange, Volume 2, Book 1 (Summer 1982), p. 14. Thomas sells land bequeathed to him by Laurence Corley. The text includes "Lawrence Corley alias Lawrence Charles." The website for SCDAH now includes an On-line Records Index accessible through www.archivesindex.sc.gov. (It's very busy, so sometimes doesn't respond.) Go to the search page, select "Multiple Records Index" at the top, then "Individuals", then type in "Charles, Laurence." That will take you to the abstract entry for his Revolutionary War account, and give you the necessary info for ordering a copy of his claim.
