I have another "little booklet" that was written about my Hendrix line and I refer to it constantly. So I think the Meetze book, even though the first three chapters are directly related to me, may give me a great deal of insight. Please advise how I can purchase. Thanks!

First two chapters are on JJM; chapter 3 - John Meetze; chap 4 - Henry Adam Meetze; Chap 5 Henry Adam Meetze, Jr. Chap 6 - Adam Watts Meetze. You might just be interested in the first two chapters as the rest are bio sketches of my direct line. It's really not a book, but a "booklet"!

John Yost Meetze, p. 106: "Like all others in those days, he drank some spiritous liquor every day, and on receipt of a circular from a New England temperance society offering him a life membership for twenty dollars, he laughed and said that sum would buy whisky enough to last him as long as he lived." Wouldn't we all like to know that our ancestors had a great sense of humor?

John Yost Meetze is a fairly prominent character in G.D. Bernheim, History of the German Settlements and of the Lutheran Church, North and South Carolina (1872: also a book one can find). It's even harder to find a copy of Edwin J. Scott, Random Recollections of a Long Life, 1806 to 1876 (Columbia SC: Charles A. Calvo Jr., Printer, 1804). Scott was a son-in-law of Meetze, and included some comments about him. He did not mention his sister-in-law Margaret. Problem: the few remaining copies of this book are very, very expensive.

This data collection phase is very important because data accuracy is critical. By the end of the year I will be asking everyone to send pictures and stories, all of which will be included. This is a giant undertaking, but it will be most rewarding. What I need right now, in any format, is hard data: names of Spigner-Speigner-Spigener descendants, dates, burial places (cemetery names and locations would be very helpful -I'm trying to visit them all), and other good data. I will need proof readers and editors for content by around the end of the year, so please volunteer. And get your pictures and stories ready!! SEND INFO NOW - SNAIL MAIL, VOICE MAIL or EMAIL!!! Hello, Does anyone have information on the surnames PILATE/PILOT/PILOTT/PYLANT/PYLATE in Lexington Co. These names were used for the same family, I believe. I have found a few Pilot/Pylant/Pilate entries in several census for Lexington Co and was wondered if anyone had any information on this family. My gggrandfather was Samuel Pilot b. 1818 in SC (county?). His children used Pilot, Pilott and Pylate as surnames. Any help would be appreciated. Betsy Pylate
Jeanie, Below is the information I was able to glean from my files concerning Thomas Long. Not sure if this is the Thomas you are looking for or if my information is all concerning one Thomas, but it's a start for you. I have done little research on the Long family of Lexington District so please understand that most of my research on this family has been collected from other sources. LONG FAMILY - source: Rev. Verley L. Fulmer Papers Volume 7 Christian Long married Elizabeth Weed. Their children were: (not sure of birth order) David Long Nancy/Elizabeth Long b. 19 January 1800 d. 1876 Jemima Long b. 1807 Thomas Long John Long Andrew Long-moved to North Carolina David Long married Peggy Fulmer Nancy Long married David Amick 1794-1854 Jemima Long married Jacob Amick (my ancestors) The Fulmer records do not list a wife for this Thomas, however, his children are listed as Adeline Long who married Luther Koon, Mary Long who married Robert Moore as his second wife, and Nancy Long who married Joe Weed. Nancy and her husband were not part of the Fulmer papers but were penciled in by someone at the Lexington County Library. The Swiss Family Frick by Mrs. Bennye A. Frick-source: Lexington Genealogical Exchange, Volume 2 Book 1 4a. Thomas Frick III married (2) Elizabeth Counts (1773-1862). Their daughter, Christine, is listed as having married Thomas Long, son of Christian Long. A Christian Long, possibly the above, appears in early records of St. Michael's Lutheran Church. There are also a number of Weed family members in these records. Hope this helps with your search. Randall Frye Laurens, SC rfrye@laurenscounty.org

I don't know if he had any siblings so I'm hoping that one or some of them listed might be a sibling. Granted I know its not going to say if they are a sibling to my Thomas! I have hit a brick wall for 3 years with trying to find his parents. Someone suggested that if I knew the names of his siblings it might help with my search. So I thought I would try this.
