Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AgB.2ACI/857.1.2 Message Board Post: Abraham Jindra was granted 50 acres in Purrysburgh, also town Lot No. 203, on 16 Sep 1738. A deed from 9 Feb 1759 identifies the wife of Abraham Gindra as Mary Margaret, daughter of Abraham Fallett, whose 400-acre grant in Purrysburgh was also issued on 16 Sep 1738. These early French-speaking settlers of the town arrrived from Switzerland, beginning in 1732. The Henry of the next generation was necessarily the son of Abraham and Mary Margaret, since they were the only couple of that name (by any of its spellings) in the Province. On 10 Aug 1764, Henry Gindereau applied for 100 acres as a single man. On 4 Dec 1770, Henry Gindrau petitioned for 250 acres (meaning that his family had increased by 5 persons). On 3 Nov 1772, Henry Gindart petitioned for another 150 acres. Another 100 acres in Purrysburgh was certified for Henry Gindrat on 28 Apr 1773, granted 25 Apr 1774. When he witnessed deeds and engaged in legal transactions during the 1770's, the spellings alternated among Gindra, Gindrat and Gindraw. Both Abraham and Henry were identified as "planter of Purrysburgh" or "planter of St. Peters Parish, Granville County". Their creativity in signing their name makes them a bit hard to locate using a search engine!

Surnames: Gindrat, May Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AgB.2ACI/857.1.1 Message Board Post: I am sorry that I am unable to provide any further information on Gindrat--John and Jerusha (May) Paisley who are mentioned in the deed were my ggggg-grandparents. Jerusha's father was Colonel John May, born in Blackswamp, South Carolina. One source I have seen lists his birthplace as Pitt County, North Carolina. His wife was Mary Stafford. I don't have a birthdate on him, but Jerusha was born in 1763. The Dorcas May who married Henry Gindrat is apparently a sister of Jerusha's. I have made no attempt to follow that family line and have no further information, but will be happy to try to help if needed.
