I am not sure where to look for my ancestor. Was Lexington District also called Dutch Fork or known by any other names? I understand that there were four different families of Taylors in Lexington District in 1820s. Is there a source where I could write to ask if anyone has a Thomas Taylor born 5/6 October 1823? Thanks for your consideration. B.W. Carlson

They Are on the 1880 census in Lexington with sons Calvin and Paul B., and maybe other children as well. (I haven't see the page itself yet.) This Paul B. is almost certainly Paul Bynum Kyser, the father of James Kern "Kay" Kyser, the WWII-era bandleader, as well as a noted academic in his own right, with a building named for him at Chapel Hill.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AgB.2ACI/814.1 Message Board Post: He's hard to find in the primary sources, because the Lexington Carl/Karle family hadn't yet adopted the Corley spelling. In "Accounts Audited of Claims Growing Out of the American Revolution" at the SC Department of Archives and History, you'll find him listed as Laurence Charles (File No. 1208), following Frederick Charles (File No. 1207) and preceding Michael Charles (File No. 1209). By the 1790 Census, they were listed as Lawrence, Frederick, and Michael Corley. A Lexington County property transfer of 10 Jun 1830 from Thomas Corley is abstracted in the Lexington Genealogical Exchange, Volume 2, Book 1 (Summer 1982), p. 14. Thomas sells land bequeathed to him by Laurence Corley. The text includes "Lawrence Corley alias Lawrence Charles." The website for SCDAH now includes an On-line Records Index accessible through www.archivesindex.sc.gov. (It's very busy, so sometimes doesn't respond.) Go to the search page, select "Multiple Records Index" at the top, then "Individuals", then type in "Charles, Laurence." That will take you to the abstract entry for his Revolutionary War account, and give you the necessary info for ordering a copy of his claim.

In my records, I have a J. P. Drafts who was the son of Thomas Jacob Drafts. I am wondering if perhaps J. P. Drafts and James Pickens Drafts were the same man. From information in the 1880 census of Lexington County, the date of birth of J. P. Drafts is about 1875. Any help in answering my question would be greatly appreciated. --- Webb Bays Blackman ----

It seems that according to a family reconstruction posted in the Lexington Genealogical Exchange, a Anna Muller married a Emanuel A. Wingard and had two children. The only problem that I see is that Emanuel A. Wingard only lived to be10 months old before being buried at St. Stephen's Luteran Church Cemetery in Lexington. I also know that Anna Muller was living with her parents at the time of the 1850 census and the last name of both of her children was Wingard. The only question that I have now is who was her husband and who were his parents. Shows you the problem of taking everything that you read as being the truth. The names given for the two children were Emma Elizabeth Wingard and Emanuel Albert Wingard. Any help would be greatly appreciated. --- Webb Bays Blackman ---

I know part of Lexington was known as Dutch Fork.... What I am looking for----around 1815-16 a school was built in this area, run by Reuben Reid. He married Elizabeth Dickert who was from the area. Other families from the area were, Cramers,Wickers,Subers,Kinards,Kestlers,Eichelbergers and Boyd, and Stackman (a preacher). It was in "Dutch Fork, between Saluda and Broad rivers on Cannon's Creek". It was a german neighborhood. This was taken from Jesse Reid's book (Reuben's son), "History of the Fourth Regiment of the SC Volunteers Army of the Confederate States of America". Is there anyone who would know of this school? Is it still there?
