I have pretty good information on their descendents.

Surnames: Refo, Drafts Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AgB.2ACI/1129.1.1 Message Board Post: Hello! I didn't even know that Charles Refo and Sarah Starr had a daughter named Mary Elizabeth, but I have lots of information about the other people in the family. My grandfather was Henry Baron Refo, grandson of Charles Sr. (Mary Elizabeth would have been his aunt) . Martha's maiden name was Parmenter--she and Charles married in 1849. Here's my information on the Refo family: Caesar Refo was the ancestor of Refos in Amaerica. He was from Bordeaux, France, born ca. 1791. He came to the U.S. in the early 1800s. He married Eliza McLeo, also from France (although her name suggests not), in 1814. Caesar died in 1845, and is buried at Magnolia Cemetery, Augusta, GA. Eliza died in 1859 at the age of 65, and is also buried at Magnolia Cemetery. Caesar and Eliza's children were: Amelia (1814-1830) Caroline (1817-1830) Harriet (1819-1862) Charles (1821-1882) - see below Alexander (1823-1824) Sarah Cecilia (1826-1910) William McCoy (1828-1873) Theodore Edward (1831-1891) Adolphus Louis (1834-1862) Susan Amelia (1838-1865) Charles Refo Sr. was married twice. Charles' first wife was Sarah Starr, whom he married 19 November 1845 in Richmond Co., GA. After her death in 1848, he married Martha Parmenter in 1849. Charles' children were: Charles Jr. (b. 1846) Henry Bascom (b. 1850) Sarah (b. 1852) Miles (b. 1854) Martha (1856-1883) Caroline (b. 1859) Davis Beauregard (b. 1861) Baron DeKalb (b. 1863) Charles Jr. cerved in the Confederate army was a private soldier in the 22nd SC Regiment. Davis Beauregard was married to Forence Antoinette Drafts in 1890. Their children were" Drafts (b. Dec. 8, 1890) Charles Lawrence (b. June 16, 1893) Harvey Carlisle (b. Dec. 10, 1895) Henry Baron - my grandfather (b. Feb. 1, 1898; d. April 1993) Wesley Luther (b. August 26, 1900) Davis Jennings (b. August 26, 1903) I'd be very interested to know anything else about Mary Elizabeth and her descendents.

Refo, but I am looking for information on the ancestry of Charles L. REFO/REFOE/RIFO, Sr. who married Sarah A. STARR in Richmond County, GA on November 19, 1845 and Martha A. (MNU) in Edgefield County, SC c1852. According to census records, Charles would have been born c. 1821. Charles L. and Sarah A. Starr Refo had C. L. Refo, Jr., born c1846 in Augusta, GA; Mary Elizabeth Refo, b. c1848, Edgefield County, SC and Henry Baron Refo, born c1850, Edegfield County, SC. Evidently Sarah Refo died after Henry's birth and Charles remmarried to Martha MNU. Charles and Martha Refo had: Sarah, b. c1854; Miles P., b. c1855; Martha A., b. c1856; Amelia, b. c1857; Caroline, b. c1859; Davis Beauregard, b. c1861; Baron D., b. c1863, and Letitia, b. c1866. Charles L. Refo, Sr. served in Co. A, 22nd SC Infantry Regt. from Edgefield County during the Civil War. After mustering out, he was called up to the Reserves to serve in ! Co. I, 2nd SC State Troops for 6 months from 1863-1864. The family moved to Fairfield County, SC sometime between 1865 and the 1870 census. I do not know when Charles L. Refo died, but his widow, Martha, was living with her son-in-law's family (McWalters or McWatters) at the 1900 census in Chester County. My line is through Mary Elizabeth Refo, b. c1848, the daughter of Charles Sr.'s first marriage, but ANY information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Do you know Martha's maiden name?

Scroll to your desired state - look at newspapers there and CHECK the box of the one you want; scroll to ADDITIONAL SEARCH OPTIONS and CHECK the Option you want. I didn't know anything except what was in the Look-up, so I ch ose "STATE,The" because (happily) the Look-up had specified Columbia and that's where The State is published. You may have to work a little harder with your look-up if you don't know a DATE or which State or City your individual lived. I chose the bottom one, and entered the date of death in the first boxes, then entered the date I did the look-up. Enter the individual's "NAME" "anywhere" and "OBITUARY" "anywhere"..... This will make sense when you see the page. I may have put the items in the wrong order, but you will see it all there. AFTER you Submit, WAIT and a page will come up with at least one or two RESULTS; if the name you want is not one of the ones given, scroll just a little way to where it instructs (My words may be wrong) CHECK HERE FOR COMPLETE ARTICLE (I had problems here) and a page with all the obituaries within the range of dates you gave. I hope you find what you want. Follow the instructions if you want to PURCHASE a copy for $2.95. Now you take it from there!

Surnames: George, Smith, Metts, Koon, Rister Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AgB.2ACI/1128 Message Board Post: I am trying to find info on an Elizabeth "Polly" GEORGE. Her daughter, Mary Manasas SMITH b. Nov 3, 1868 d. jun 21 1929 was married (May 30, 1886) to Walter M. METTS, son of George METTS and Elizabeth SEASE. According to a family narrative, Polly GEORGE was the only daughter in a home full of boys. The story say that when "Old Man George" died, he left all of his property to the eldest sons. The other boys got mad and sowed the gardens with grass. I have found Andrew GEORGE in the 1850 census that would match the above situation. This is the Andrew GEORGE that was married to Nancy RISTER and had a son named Joel Sandford GEORGE. Polly GEORGE was the second wife of Thomas SMITH. Thomas was married to a Miss KOON before Miss GEORGE, with whom he had two sons. As the story goes, Thomas SMITH returned from service in the Civil War finding his wife (Miss KOON) and one of his sons dead. The living son was supposedly named Jim. Any help would be greatly appreciated
