I'm not sure whether you want information or are just supplying it. In any case, here is an interesting deed. Deed Book O, page 202, 1849, has Roderick R. Gary mortgaging 150 acres on Rabun Creek to Leonnah Kennedy. Borders Robt. Thomason, Gideon Thomason, Joseph Thomason, Frances Thomason, and Thurman Coker. Deed O-105, 1842, has Roderick mortgaging the same land to John N. Young, except that it is stated to be 139 acres. Bordered N. by Robt Willis, S. by Thurman Coker and Frances Thomason, and W. by Robt Thomason. The interesting thing here is that this land on Rabun Cr. is quite a distance away from where Rody and Leannah Kennedy lived. It is my guess that Leannah was essentially loaning money to Roderick, who might have been the husband of a Kennedy daughter. Hi Richard, Thanks for the deed info, I added it to the page. I think Leannah was literate and probably good with money. I have a book that she probably owned, "Bookkeeping in the True Italian Form of Debtor and Creditor By Way Of Double Entry" p. 1785. I think she owned the book because it has several slips of paper stuffed in the book with her name on it. One is for the sale of salt, another is a receipt for payment of a "public poor tax" in 1831 - $18.97 1/2 I don't know if any of Leannah's daughters married into the Garys, but her great-granddaughter married a Gary descendant. Interesting... Thanks again, Katherine >From: "Richard A. Here is a deed that you probably already have. In my opinion it should help to fill out the family situation at the time. For example, it looks like there were 4 heirs, and that Roda owned at least 3 different parcels of land. Deed Book Y, page 229, 1883 has a Rhoda Kennedy estate survey of Tract #3, 449 acres "to make 4 tracts of 110 1/2 acres each". I know that this does not add up, but it is what I have entered in my notebook. A plat is included that shows N. D. Kennedy on the south side, and J. O. Fleming on the east. The tract is mostly on the west side a road (which I'm sure is the road from Poplar Springs church to Laurens). The northern boundary direction is North 84 1/2 degrees East. I did not copy down any other information. When I drew this tract on my modern topographical map I located it 1 mile south of Poplar Springs Ch. The 1883 Laurens Co. map shows J. O. C. Fleming about 1 mile below Pop. Spr., and "Kennedy's est." about 1.5 miles below Pop. Spr. Ch. M. O. Kennedy is shown almost 3 miles below Pop. Spr. Ch. on the west side of the road. I am curious to know if the number of heirs and number of properties matches up with your knowledge of the family. Thanks, Richard Lorenz ----- Original Message ----- From: "Richard A.
