Jesse Gallagy is in the 1840 census, 30-40 years old, with 2 females in the 40-50 age range. There is also a Jesse in the 1850 census, but I do not have any details of who lived with him. Age 44 in 1850. I believe that he lived in or near Joanna, possibly closer to Hopewell Church in 1840, but I am not certain. Deed Book Q, page 242, no date in my notes but recorded in 1859 has Jesse Galigly transferring his interest in 128 acres in the Bush River watershed to James C. and E. F. Galigly. Bordered Mrs. Vance, Ephraim Dalrymple, and Rev. E. Lindsay. Witnesses Newton Campbell and Jefferson L. Motes. I believe that this property is somewhere between Joanna and Hopewell Church. James C. Gallagy and wife Mary A. are in the 1860 and 1870 censuses living in the vicinity of Hopewell Ch., I believe. Mrs. Mary Gallegly is listed as a bordering property owner in Deeds V-508 and V-509, 1879. These tracts are about 3 miles due south of Joanna, I believe. There is a Sarah Gallagy in the 1830 census, age 50-60. She could have been living on or near the above Mary Gallegly property. There were other Gallegys living in Laurens Co. before 1830. ----- Original Message ----- From: <mary23meyer@gmail.com> To: <SCLAUREN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 14, 2006 12:13 AM Subject: [SCLAUREN] Jesse Laurence Gallaghy b 1804 > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: GALLAGHY, ABERNATHY > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YeB.2ACI/563 > > Message Board Post: > > I would like to know more about Jesse Laurence Gallaghy b 1804 in Laurens > Co. Jesse Entrekin was born about 1795 based on the 1840 census. The following is from "Laurens County Real Estate, Vol. II, 1873-1878, p. 37. Jessie Entrekin died possessed of 103 acres of land adj. lands of Sarah Young, Jesse Young, James Miller, W. D. Boyd, and others. (Deeds show land to be on Carson Creek near the Newberry line). Petitioner James M. Entrekin is due 1/7 part of the estate and 1/7 part each is due to the following. 1. Heirs of I. Newton Entrekin, dec'd, viz: James, Emma, Lafayette, and Ella Entrekin, all of Laurens Co. 2. Heirs of T. Dunwoody Entrekin, dec'd, viz: Laurens and William Entrekin, Pickens County, SC. 3. Nancy Entrekin, wife of Jackson Stewart, Pickens Co., SC. 4. William M. Entrekin, Pickens Co., SC. 5. Isabella M. Entrekin, wife of George Martin, Oconee Co., SC. 6. Heirs of John Entrekin, dec'd, names and number of whom are unknown and who reside beyond the limits of the State of SC. Filed July 30, 1874. (A note given to me by a reliable genealogist says that Jesse Entrekin died in 1848. Petition for settlement of the estate was filed after the death of his wife, Mary A. Entrekin). Based on the 1840 census for Jesse Entrekin, it would put John Entrekin, heir #6 above, as being born between 1825 and 1830, as I interpret the census.
