Pope Rites Wednesday ____ Funeral services for George T. Pope, 63, who died early Tuesday morning at his home near Madden Station after years of declining health, were held Wednesday afternoon in the chapel of the Kennedy Mortuary. The Rev. J.A. Grigsby and the Rev. Ray Crain officiated. Interment was in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Joe Brownlee, Rex Brownlee, Alfred Brownlee, O'Connell Brownlee, B.F. Hall, Jr., and Oland Strawhorn. Escort of honrr was composed of the following: Charlie Madden, George Brown, B.F. Hall, Sr., Everett Cox, Fred Burts, Gene Littlefield, Owen Brewington, Floyd Godwin, E.F. Coggins, Allen Coleman, Allen Thompson, Tom Stewart, Dr. C.P. Vincent and Dr. M.B. Nickles. Mr. Pope was born in Ansonville, N.C., a son of the late Levi Nelson and Martha Ann Randle Pope. He was a member of the central Methodist church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ilace Thomas Pope of Laurens; one daughter, Mrs. W.R. Thomas of Laurens; one son, Frank Pope, of Laurens; three! step-sons, D.D. Thomas and Robert Thomas of Greenville and W.R. Thomas of Laurens; one brother, V.R. Pope of Columbia; two sister's, Mrs Hattie Hixon and Mrs. J.J. Lever, both of Columbia and five grandchildren.
