Hello, Does anyone know what the numbers are beside the names in the index for the 1790 census, it looks like ages, am I correct or is this the county numbers. I found the 1790 census index for McP , McF on the rootsweb site and there are names with numbers that look like ages , 10, 70, 20 and 5 beside the names. I know the soundex for McPherson, McFarson, McFerson, McPhersion and all the Scottish spellings come under the 216 soundex. The only McPherson that I see in the Laurens Co. 1790 census is Wm. on page 75, line 9. His "numbers are 1, 3, 5, 0, and 0. The first number is Free white males of 16 years and upward, including heads of families. The second is Free white males under 16 years, and the third is Free white females, including heads of families. The fourth is All other free persons, and the fifth is slaves. The page number might be different from the original census page.
