I do not have any family information. I do not have any census records for Waldemar Murff. He appeared in several recorded deeds. Deed Book P, page 39, 1845, has Joseph Sullivan transferring 350 acres in trust to Thos. J. Sullivan. Located on road from Greenville to Augusta in Reedy and Saluda watersheds. Borders Geo. French, Stephen Clement, Wm. Cox, and Waldersman Murff. Deed P-56, 1847, has John Hudgens selling 136 acres in Saluda Riv. watershed to Geo. French. Suit of Hampton Stone to me that goods, lands of John M. Branya ? (Benham???). On Saluda. Borders Walter Murff. Witnesses James McMilam and S W Anderson. Deed Q-159, no date, has Sarah Medlock, Waldeman Murff, Benj. and Mat. Johnson, James Simmons, and Lucy Medlock selling 89 acres to Thos. Taylor. "James Medlock, dec., sold tract to Thos. Taylor". (My notes are not clear on the above, so the microfilm should be examined. I believe that this means that Sarah et al were the heirs of the James Medlock land, but I am not certain). Deed Q-159, 1856, has Thos. Taylor selling this same land to James Taylor. Bordered Sarah Medlock and the late Wm. Puckett. Deed Q-178, no date, but recorded at the courthouse in 1857, has Walderman Murff selling 91 3/4 acres on Saluda Riv. to James M. Eppes. The earliest census record that I have in my notes for Silas Medlock is 1829. He headed a family of 3. He lived near James Medlock who headed a family of 5. No age or sex information in the 1829 index. ----- Original Message ----- From: "C. W. Silas Medlock apparently did not leave any record of property ownership (deed), but there are several deeds that show pretty well where he lived. As best as I can tell, he lived at between Brewerton and a mile or so southeast of there between the main road and the Saluda River. The pertinant deeds follow. Deed Book M, page 196, 1829, has John Simmons conveying his interest in the land of John ? Simmons, dec., to Caty Simmons. The land was 517 acres on the north side of Saluda River. It was bordered east by James Clardy, northeast by Reuben Carter, north by James Clardy, northwest by Thos. Ware, and south and southeast by Silas Medlock. Witnessed by Isaac Teague, Thos. Ware, and Hardimon Simmons. In the 3 deeds that followed the above, Drusilla Simmons, Wm. and Mahaly Clardy, and James Simmons also conveyed their interests in the above land to Caty Simmons. Deed N-159, 1836, has Caty Simmons converying 97 acres in the Saluda watershed to Jesse E. Clardy. Bordered west by James Loveless, north by Silas Medlock, east by Chas. Jones, south by James Loveless and Chas. Jones, by Reuben Carter, and by forks of a branch. It appears that Caty Simmons sold off most of the rest of her 517 acres through deeds M-223 and N-83 by selling to James Loveless and Abner Noble. The Noble tract was later sold to Chas. Jones (Deed N-183). Deed O-238, 1839, has E. F. Latimer sellin 218 acres in the Saluda and Walnut Cr. watersheds to Sam Beeks. Bordered John Smith, Aaron Clore, James Jones, Silas Medlock, Absalom Medlock, Thos. Ware, and Geo. Tierce. Witnesses Wm. Weatherall, and Baylie ? Mattison. (The fact that the land was in 2 watersheds means that it must have been on both sides of the road that runs between the 2 watersheds). Deed O-256 has John Smith selling 220 acres in Saluda watershed to Thos. Robertson. Bordered north by Silas Medlock, northeast by James Henderson, east by Harrison Daniel, and southwest by the Saluda River. Deed P-61, 1846, has E. Williamson selling 134 acres on the side of the road from Greenville to Hamburg to Wm. Arnold. Bordered James Eppes, Wm. Puckett, Silas Medlock, and Geo. Gerreld. Deed P-124 probably refers to the above tract even though the acreages are different. I might have misread one of them. With this deed Wm. Arnold sold 154 acres on the west side of the road leading from Greenville to Hamburg to Sam L. Maddox. Bordered James Eppes, Wm. Puckett, Silas Medlock, and Geo. Gerral. The above tract is sold again through Deed Q-11, 1852, in which Sam. D. Maddox sells 154 acres on west side of "the" road to Geo. Geral. Bordered James Eppes, Wm. Puckett, Silas Medlock, Wm. Puckett, and Geo. Geral. The above land is sold again in Deed Q-30, 1852. Geo. Geral sold 154 acres, west side of the road from -----. Bordered James M. Eppes, estate of Wm. Puckett, Wm. Puckett, and Geo. Geral. Note that Silas Medlock is not mentioned, but no one else is substituted for him. I tried to follow these tracts of land on to later years in hopes of finding names of the owners or neighbors on the 1883 map of Laurens Co. I was not successful with this. The people mentioned in the O-238 deed correlated very well with the census records for that time period. Many of the names in that deed appeared close together in the census listing. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Richard A.
