Dan Crumpton in Georgia at email [email protected] The Last Will and Testament of William Rodgers was written in June 1799. >In it he names his wife FRANCES, >sons ROBERT and JOHN, and daughters TABBIE HUNTER and MARY SAXON. >Witnesses are R. L. Rodgers, John Saxon >and Luke CRUMPTON. > >In 1788, Tabitha (Tabbie) Rodgers married John Hunter (b.1768 Laurens >Co,SC-d.1835 Laurens Co,SC). He became Judge of Sup. Court and maintained a home in Charleston, as well as a large plantation in Laurens County. I'm told that was quite common for large planters of that period. It has also been written that he owned the best horses and saddle gear in the state, and never backed down from a wager that "his'n could outrun your'n". The Hunters had three children born to them, but a son and a daughter died in childhood, and only the oldest, daughter ZELPHA lived to adulthood. She married John H. Crumpton of Greenville on 23 Nov 1806. >John Hunter died in 1835. At his estate sale on 13 Sept 1835, among those >listed as purchasers are: >John Crumpton >Jas. Crumpton >William Crumpton >Luke Crumpton > >References: >1790 Federal Census - Laurens County, SC, Roll M 637 - 11 >Conveyance Register of Greenville County, SC, E, 174. >Charleston Gazette, 1 Dec 1806 >1810 Census, Charleston District, SC >"Colonial Families of the Carolinas", Gates, Regional Publishing, pp. 31-35 >Abstracts, Deeds and Titles, Laurens County, SC, 1801-18 >Estate Partitions in the Emanuel District Court of Equity, 1822-1850, p. 125
