This is from "Pendleton District and Anderson County, South Carolina Wills, Estates, and Legal Records" by Alexander, Elliott and Willie, Page 21. January Term of Court 1799. Personally appeared AMBROSE HUDGINS in open court and duly sworn made oath that about thirty years ago to the best of his recollection he was at the house of WILLIAM CANNON that the said WILLIAM CANNON took in his arms his granddaughter NANCY HUDGINS who was about one year old and who is now NANCY BROOKS and then asked this deponent to walk into his kitchen and when they had got into the kitchen that the said WILLIAM CANNON said to him, he had asked him to walk in to see him deliver a negro male child called Jim to his granddaughter then NANCY HUDGINS, but now NANCY BROOKS, that the said WILLIAM CANNON did then in the presence of this deponent take and deliver the said male child to the said NANCY HUDGINS now NANCY BROOKS to be her right and property when she should marry or come of age. And he further saith that he hath since seen ANN CANNON widow of WILLIAM CANNON deceased deliver the said negro Jim to the above mentioned NANCY BROOKS.
