Does anyone have any "solid" information on the marriage of Joseph Adair and Sarah Dillard. Several researchers have cast significant doubt over whether any of the early Joseph Adairs had a spouse named Sarah Dillard, since the Dillards were from Virginia, while the Adairs came to SC from Lancaster Co., PA after 1764 (Lancaster deed records support this). Supposedly, that Adair line never lived in Virginia, and the Dillards didn't come to the Laurens County area of SC until after the Revolution, when Joseph would already have been married. Laurens County deed records identify Joseph Adair, Jr.'s spouse as Elizabeth (Unknown surname). They probably would have married in PA. There WAS a Joseph Adair of Laurens Co. whose wife was named Sarah, but her last name wasn't Dillard and he wasn't the son of Joseph, Sr. Supposedly, James Steven DILLARD, born about 1710 married Lucy WISE, possibly daughter of a Col. WISE. Bit, it has also been brought to my attention that, due to lack of evidence, there seems to be no such people as Lucy Wise and James Stephen Dillard. It has also been pointed out that middle names were rarely used during the early 1700's. No genealogical documentation (other than internet postings and such) has been found for these people, that I am aware of. If you have anything to support the existence of this couple, please share. I have both of these couples listed in my lineage, but when I began to search for "proof" to support these lines, I found none. Other researchers have done a pretty good job of proving that the information on Joseph ADAIR/Sarah DILLARD and James Steven DILLARD/ Lucy WISE is basically just conjecture. Please share your thoughts!?! Thanks so much! Fredreica [email protected]
