    1. Re: [SCLAUREN] Joel Burgess reply
    2. Richard, I received your e-mails. I was away for a couple of days. Thank you for the information. There is actually a lot of detail found in the deeds. I recently moved from California to Charleston, SC. Some day I'm going to the archives in Columbia. I also have other lines from SC. Found this in my notes: Roster of S C Patriots in the American Revolution Burgess, Joel He served as a lieutenant on an expedition against the Indians in February 1781 and served after the fall of Charleston, possibly in Marion’s brigade. Audited Accounts of the SC Archives 913 The Chester Standard 16 Mar 1854 Chester SC Facts found in our combined land deeds: Joel Burgess Sr. was granted land in South Carolina for participating in the Revolutionary War. In 1784 Joel Sr. was granted or purchased 239 acres on the Waters of the Little River in the Ninety Six District and Saluda River. In 1784 Charles Saxon acquired 190 acres on the Little River in the Ninety Six District, which most likely bordered the property of Joel Sr. In 1785 Joel Sr acquired 20 acres on Little River in the Ninety Six District. In 1788 Joel Sr was a witness to the sale by Richard Robinson of 150 acres on Beaverdam Creek of Little River. 1801 Joel Sr was a witness to the will of Wm Manly of Laurens County. Series Number: S108093 Reel: 0016 Frame: 00155 1803 Will of Joel Burgess Sr of Laurens District (My husband descends from Joel’s daughter, Sally/Sarah who married George Medford.) 1819 T. Mother, Elenor, is listed. 1819 Geo Brownlee transaction bordering “Widow Burgess”. 1828 Joel Jr and wife Elizabeth sold 108 acres bordering the heirs of Joel Burgess, dec. 1829 Turner Richardson sold land bordered by “land claimed by Joel Burgess, dec. 1832 Langston Osborne sold land in Little River watershed bordered on the south by widow Burgess. (This would indicate that Elenor died after 1832.)
