Type Family Search in the search box and I think it will come up. After you get to the site, type in as much as you know to fill in the blanks. Since I knew very little, I just typed in Nimrod Williams, went down to Country and clicked on United States and checked all States. I was surprised at how many Nimrod Williams there were. Many are the same information submitted by different people. Go down the whole listing looking for birth info, etc. One in Laurens Co. in 1850 could be him. By checking dates, you can eliminate some. I don't believe there was a Nimrod in my Williams family. As you would expect, there were several Williams families in the Carolinas and Tn. and KY. I hope haven't completely confused you. Let me know if you found him.

The following was posted to the Rootsweb Isle of Wight, VA list under the subject: A letter to other states ... We all know what a chore it is to find answers, locate records. Have you thought about all of the genealogists in the path of Katrina that fled their homes, leaving their computers and their data behind? Not today, but someday, they will be in a position to return to their genealogy, and have no idea where to start. A group has just been started to help. Please join! Homepage: http://groups.google.com/group/Katrina-Genealogists Group email: Katrina-Genealogists@googlegroups.com Description: Genealogists banding together to recreate data for those who lost their records in Katrina. Collecting surnames, names of genealogists who lost data, those who want to help. Initial startup will be spent brainstorming what we can do. We know many of you are not in the south as you research. There is no shelter near you that you can volunteer for. Perhaps this will be a way to help. If you have ideas, or are just available to do something once we formulate tasks, please join us. Can anyone enlighten me on the L. C. and Charleston RR Bank ? My ancestor left 6 shares in his will dated November of 1848 located in the probate court in Laurens, SC. To date I cannot find any history on this. It looks like it might have been for a right of way across property for a RR.... Look forward to your replies. Ellen
Those of us who endulge our interest in genealogy have a deep core of respect for history. I received this email today about the fate of Beauvoir, Jefferson Davis' home. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jefferson Davis' Biloxi Home Beauvoir Reported "Demolished" by Hurricane Beauvoir, the last home of Jefferson Davis, was reported late Tuesday to be "virtually demolished" by Hurricane Katrina. The Jackson, MS, Clarion Ledger said that the historic building has been "reduced to rubble and a frame of a house." The house was located on the north side of Beach Boulevard, across from a number of "barge style" casinos. One of the closest, the President Casino, was lifted whole from its mooring pillars and transported across the highway where it came to rest crushing a Holiday Inn. The house, constructed in 1854, was dedicated in 1998 as the "Jefferson Davis Presidential Library and Museum." After Davis' death Beauvoir evolved first into the Jefferson Davis Soldiers' Home, serving as a hospital and residence for disabled Confederate veterans and their dependents. The Beauvoir Confederate Cemetery is located at the extreme northwest corner of the estate and contains over 750 graves. One of them is Sam Davis, father of Jefferson Davis, whose body was moved there when the Mississippi River threatened his original gravesite at Hurricane Plantation. The Beauvoir cemetery is also the home of the Grave of the Unknown Confederate Soldier in an above-ground granite shrine. No reports on its condition are available. Another nearby burial ground, Southern Memorial Park, had its mausoleum torn open by the force of the onrushing water, and witnesses told the Clarion-Ledger that numerous caskets were strewn about the grounds. Most "burials" in the area are above-ground entombments due to difficulties with the high water table. The home and grounds have been open to the public since 1957. In 1969 Beauvoir survived Hurricane Camille but the museum, at that time in the basement of the house, was severely flooded. The Library cottage suffered severe damage from that storm. Both had since been rebuilt.

Laurens Co. Deed Book C, page 181, Jan. 1790, Cornelius Donohoe sold 150 acres on waters of Beaverdam Creek to Moses Sullivant. Bounded S and W by Joseph Babb; N on David Craddock; E on Wm Drew, being a tract originally granted to Christopher Plines 3 June 1755. (I am certain that this Beaverdam Cr. is branch of Little River, near Mountville. Deed F-36, 1791, Moses Sullivant sold the above land to Jeremiah Glenn. This information is in the Motes Book on page 195. My notes also show Moses Sullivan mentioned in Deed F-31, but I cannot find the details of this transaction. ----- Original Message ----- From: <clarkappliancesv@bellsouth.net> To: <SCLAUREN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, August 24, 2005 10:04 AM Subject: [SCLAUREN] SULLIVANS > Looking for info an estate settlement for MOSES SULLIVAN [T] who died > after 1808 in Greenville Co, SC. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YeB.2ACI/527 Message Board Post: I've established a Laurens County, SC Geographical-DNA Project. Since many families settled in Laurens and never left the county, it's a prime area for genealogical genetic testing. While the majority of DNA-projects are focused on male Y-DNA surname testing, the Laurens DNA-Project is also open to females of Laurens County ancestors. Participants do NOT need to be currently living in Laurens Co., they just need to be on an all female, or all male direct line. The first project participant is my first cousin who is a Laurens native with 200+ years of Laurens ancestry on both his direct maternal and paternal lines, he was tested for both Y-DNA and mtDNA. His Y-DNA did return results with other surname matches. His mtDNA from his mother, gave me a surprise with a perfect match to someone in my Fuller DNA surname project! I called Mr. Fuller and he told me he was on a direct maternal line to a 'brick-wall' female line from Laurens County. So the match may help Mr. Fuller in his search for his ancestor, as he can focus on the Glenn/Harris lines. The project has scholarship funds available for a direct descendant on an all female line from the Glenn/Harris family. Those with ancestry in the surrounding counties of ol' Ninety-Six are also welcome to participate. The site also includes Laurens County cemetery transcriptions and research links. Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to participate! Best regards, Katherine Hope Bolt-Borges Laurens County, SC DNA-Project Admin http://www.ourfamilyorigins.com/laurens/dna.htm
