    3. I am researching the Copelands who came to Laurens County in approximately 1755 according to a booklet I have. George was the father with 12 year old John who later married Margaret Blakely. I am interested in exchanging information with others who are trying to find the origin of George and whatever others want to discuss concerning these ancestors. My Copeland line is George, John, John II, Henry, John M, Wyatt O, Wyatt G. Henry is the hardest person to find any information about! Hoping to hear from someone!! Sue Copeland in Warner Robins, GA

    3. RE: Those queries which begin: "This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list." These are not sent directly to the list, but to a Rootsweb message board. To see the original query, you will need to click on the link and go to the message board where it was posted. From there you can go back to the original query, if the one currently posted to the list is a reply. Margaret Lindsey Smith Richard wrote: "I still do not get the original queries."

    1. Wilson Cooper of Laurens Co. SC
    2. Ben: I am a descendant of Wilson Cooper (father of your John Anderson by his first wife). My 2g-gf (David M. Cooper) was a son of Wilson's by his second wife. I would be happy to share all my documented data if you will contact me. The Cooper family reunion was held this past August in Laurens but I will have to search for the person who can be contacted for future reunions. I attended the reunion in 1986. 1. William McPherson, Laurens Co. SC 1790
    2. Margaret Smith
    3. When I looked at the digitized microfilm record on Ancestry.com, I found, on the page of the Laurens County census with the original handwritten number 16, and later handwritten number 444, the following on the 6th line, left column: William McPherson 1 3 5 - - As Richard said, William is listed as the head of the household, which consisted of 1 free white male 16 or over, 3 free white males under 16, 5 free white females, no other free persons and no slaves. This is a microfilm of the original census record, not a transcription. Margaret Lindsey Smith

    3. The 1790 census index that I use is apparently one that was retabulated and printed in book form. Laurens Co. is covered on pages 71 through 76. Nothing is hand written in this index. Someone who is as serious as you are should verify these retabulated results by checking the originals. Mistakes can be made during the retabulation. The retabulated census that I use is not an index, but looks like the names are listed in the same sequence as in the originals. I made my own index for these retabulated, printed, data. ----- Original Message ----- From: "brenda compton" <bmcompton2000@yahoo.com> To: <SCLAUREN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 26, 2005 7:50 AM Subject: [SCLAUREN] Re: 1790 census index > These are the McPherson's that are listed in the 1790 > census, my William is listed below, I have the > origional records of the census records of Laurens, > South Carolina. > William McPherson is listed on page number 444 , why > would the 1790 census index be misleading for me to go > to page 75. 3. These are the McPherson's that are listed in the 1790 census, my William is listed below, I have the origional records of the census records of Laurens, South Carolina. William McPherson is listed on page number 444 , why would the 1790 census index be misleading for me to go to page 75. These are the McPherson's in my family and the page numbers do not go with the index, does the index tell you to go to page 75, then go to another page which would be page 444? 3. The only McPherson that I see in the Laurens Co. 1790 census is Wm. on page 75, line 9. His "numbers are 1, 3, 5, 0, and 0. The first number is Free white males of 16 years and upward, including heads of families. The second is Free white males under 16 years, and the third is Free white females, including heads of families. The fourth is All other free persons, and the fifth is slaves. The page number might be different from the original census page. The location for this is in southern part of the county, between Joanna and Cross Hill, but not as far as Cross Hill, I believe. ----- Original Message ----- From: "brenda compton" <bmcompton2000@yahoo.com> To: <SCLAUREN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 25, 2005 10:23 PM Subject: [SCLAUREN] Re: 1790 census index > Hello, > > Does anyone know what the numbers are beside the names > in the index for the 1790 census, it looks like ages, > am I correct or is this the county numbers.
