That researcher felt strongly that it was William due to William having a son John and due this John and wife Margaret being involved in the sale of William's lands in Charlotte Co VA which John had inherited. I do nto doubt that you may be correct but have no way of verifying either Andrew or William as John's father.

    3. In the book "Maryland and Virginia Colonials" by Sharon Doliante, there are mentions of Booker Foster. My gggrandfather was Joel Foster but I haven't been able to connect them. The book is set up by surnames. In the Williams chapter (Joel's daughter Clementine married Daniel Maxie Williams. They are my ggrandparents), On page 1072 in tracing Josiah Williams, the following entry is made: Oct. 27, 1796- Josiah Williams and Judith, his wife, sold for 466 pounds to Booker Foster 380 a. adjoining lands of Phillip Williams, Ben Overton,Tho.Atkinson, Est. of Rowlett Pride,William Dearing, Daniel Williams, Aron League and James League.(Amelia Co. Deed Book 20, pg. 206). On page 1107 the Will of Phillip Williams, Sr.dated Jan 14,1785 is witnessed by Booker Foster. At a Court held for Amelia County (VA) the 18th day of December,1786, the Last Will and Testament of Phillip Williams Sen. decd. was Exhibited into Court and Proved by the oaths of Booker Foster, Augustin Beadle and Benjamin Overton, the witnesses thereto. On June 28, 1787 the Inventory of Phillip Williams' Estate was introduced in Amelia County Court. Booker Foster is one of the appraisers of the Estate. I realize all this does is establish that he was in Amelia County, VA at the dates given but maybe it will help someone.

    3. There is a Charles Cargill in the 1829 census with a family of 11. No age or sex information in the 1829 census. Did I miss an earlier query about a Tinsley? 3. I don't know anything about Elizabeth Cargill, but there were also Lewis and Alfred Cargill in Laurens Co. property records at about the same time period as Charles. Charles is listed in 2 property records. In Book N, page 60, about 1834, Charles is listed as a landmark for a Militia Company boundary. From the Laurens-to-Greenville road, "thence along a small road leading to Youngs Store to a point opposite Charles Cargill's still house on the head of Beaverdam Creek". In Deed Book P, page 202, 1851, C. Cargill is listed as bordering property of H S Cole and Edmund Crymes on Beaverdam Creek branch of the Enoree. A Charles is listed in both the 1830 and 1840 censuses, northeast of GrayCourt as far as I can tell. Lived in the same vicinity in 1850 and 1860. S. (female) only in 1860. No wife-age female shown in the 1840 census. She could have been away at the time, or Sarah could be his second wife, as I see it. ----- Original Message ----- From: <jshjenkins@hotmail.com> To: <SCLAUREN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 11, 2006 10:25 AM Subject: [SCLAUREN] Re: Tinsley > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Cargill, Curry > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YeB.2ACI/39.122 > > Message Board Post: > > Just wondering if Elizabeth Cargill was related to Charles and Sarah Curry > Cargill. 3. I talked to Sharon in the early 1900s. She had moved to Meta, AR and had just finished the book the year before, having worked on it for 30 years. It was a single volume at that time for $92.00. Very heavy, thin paper and very small print.Dividing it was a good idea. I, too, am connected to most of the families and it is a treasure trove for me still.

    3. Margie, Lisa and Jan - Do you have access to a library with a good genealogy section? A distant cousin of mine (her ggrandmother was a sister to my ggrandfather)published a book in 1991 on the various families that went before us. The book is no longer in print but a good library should have it.The book title is "Maryland and Virginia Colonials: Genealogies of Some Colonial Families". The author is Sharon J. Doliante. Each chapter contains information about a specific surname. In the Beasley chapter as well as Elmore, Morris,Odell,Prather/Prater, Wesson and Williams chapters, Pucketts are mentioned. It is where they witnessed a signature or attended an estate sale or in court. So basically it just establishes that the person was there on a certain date. If you cannot find the book, let me know and I will e-mail each of you the info if you want it.

SC. along with so many of the other names associated with these two lines. John Miller of Laurens CO. first married to unknown Cherokee Indian woman then married second to Margaret Garrett d/o Silas Garrett and Ann "Nancy" Young. I descend from John and Margaret through their son Charles W. Miller b. 1815 and his wife Priscilla Garrett d/o Levi Garrett and Mary Dillard. I also have another Garrett line through Joseph Garrett son of John Garrett and Hannah Harris, Joseph was married Priscilla Ramage Dillard, sister to Mary Dillard, both were daughters of Major James Dillard and Mary Ramage. Joseph and Priscilla Dillard,Garrett's daughter Sarah "Sallie " Garrett married Levi Burk s/o James and Barbara Briggs, Burk. The Harris line is very mixed with a number of the people listed above, Joseph Harris born 1763 Union SC. d. 9-1841 (It is believed by some the wife of Joseph Harris was Martha Jones,) This is not been proven by me. It is also believed the father of Joseph Harris is Richard Harris born ca.1739-45 and he was married to Jemima Jones b. 1741 Union Co. SC. d/o Samuel Jones and unknown wife. Possible children of Richard & Jemima Jones, Harris are: 1. Joseph Harris b. 5-10-1763 Union CO. SC. m. Martha Jones. 2. Nathan Harris b. ca. 1760's 3. William Harris b.ca. 1760's m. Maria Briggs 4. Over the years several articles have been published about this alleged relationship, but under scrutiny they have all fallen apart for lack of documented evidence or outright errors. There is, however, strong evidence that John Rodgers, who married Margaret McNeese and was the father of John Leander Rodgers, was a son of Andrew Rodgers who died in Lunenburg VA in 1755. Andrew's will includes a son, John. Several of his other sons, including Patrick, Andrew and Thomas, also moved to Laurens SC. Land records and family connections further enhance this relationship.

    3. I have a property record in my notes that might help. There is an Albert Madden in the 1830 and 1840 censuses that I place at or near Maddens. My notes indicate no Albert in 1850, and I have a blank in 1860. Could you please send me the page and dwelling number for Albert in the 1860 census? I would like to add it to my records. The property record is in Deed Book P, page 96. I do not have a date for this, but it was probably 1846. Albert Madden sold 225 acres in Little River watershed, a branch called Regons ?? Creek. It was bordered north by Wm. Goss and Bill Rogers, west by Jeremiah Collins, south by Mistress Susan Boyd, and east by Patillo Farrow. I place this land roughly a mile east of Maddens. I think that "Regons" that I put in my notes should really be "Ryans". You might look for records of the Bill Rogers family to see if there is a Martha. He married my great aunt, Bernice Virginia Taylor, on 14 July 1929 at Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Laurens County. Aunt Bernice is now 94 approaching 95 and cannot communicate but she can still read. She helped me so much on my Taylor family and I would like to send her something of interest. She was the daughter of William Berryman Taylor and Myrtie Lee Kirby. Many of my lines including Medlocks come from that corner of Laurens, Abbeville, Greenville and Anderson. I'm stuck on my W.B. Taylor #1 at his birth in 182?. and my James Medlock b. 1800. We have mostly been working on the Medlock for 4 years.
