About a month or so ago there was a posting about a book that contained the names of persons from the Laurens area who migrated to the Arkansas? area. If anyone knows where I might be able to find some information, I'd appreciate an e-mail or snail mail address. I lost all of my old e-mails and ad to start over. Thank you in advance! Hs father was Alexander, mother Sally. The other one isHerschel born 1882 born Ky was inSt.Louis when he aplied for his card. His father was Mortimore, mother Jane Taylor. Do you have these men? My McKelleys are impossibe to find, I know they wre in Franklin co AL prior to 1880 but I cant prove it. Good luck in your search.
There was a question obout where Wm. Hanna (lived until around 1811, I believe). The Union Co. Land Grant Maps show a Wm. Hanna with a 320 acre grant in 1794 and a 150 acre grant in 1784. These are adjacent and are on a branch of Duncans Cr. on the south or western side. A small branch runs through both properties, the branch being a little less than a mile upstream from Beards Fork of Duncan Cr. This is maybe 2.5 miles northwest of Duncan Cr. Church. The second property mentioned reaches within about 0.2 miles of Duncan Cr. My interpretion of census records for 1790 and 1800 is that Wm. Hanna probably lived on these properties. Deed Book F page 40 has Wm. Hanna, Sr., selling 107 acres to Wm Cunningham in 1795, part of a 320 acre grant 1794. Deed J-12, 1807, has James Laird selling 225 acres to Wm McClure, both side Duncan Cr., with an adjoining property owner being Wm. Hanna. Deed K-3, 1812, Has Sam, James, Robert, and Wm. Hanna selling 160 acres (parts of 3 tracts) to Wm. Leak. Two of the tracts were from grants of 1765 and 1785 to Wm. Hanna, deceased. I believe that the 1785 grant is the same as the 1784 grant mentioned above. The 3 tracts cover both sides of Duncan Cr. Deed K-187, 1817, sounds like it is part of the above K-3 land. Several Leaks sold 80 acres to Moses Leak, part of a grant to Wm. Hanna, dec., converted by his heirs to Wm. Leak in 1812. Both sides Duncan Creek. Deed M-154, 1830, has several Leaks selling 250 acres on (or near) Duncan Cr. to James, Wm. and John M. Hanna. Grant of Wm. Hanna, belonged to said Wm. Hanna at his death. I believe that all of the above land records were part of the 2 grants to Wm. Hanna located just above Beards Fork of Duncan Cr. I do not have any land or census records that suggest that William lived between Duncan Cr. and the Enoree. There is a grant and one Deed record for a Wm. Hanna on Allisons Branch of Duncan Creek. This flows from the Hurricane Baptist Church area on the west side of Duncans Cr. Most of the above comes out of my notes. There may be mistakes, so please verify anything that looks important to you. Richard Lorenz

He would be around 30 years old maybe slightly older and he once dated a woman by the name of Evelyn M. Carlisle "Cissy". My mother passed away at the age of 21 in 1988. I have never met this man and I do not want any money from him. I just want to know him and if I have any brothers or sisters. IF you have any information please contact me as soon as possible. I am 16 years old and I want to meet my father!! I need him in my life....All I know is that his family may or may not live in one of the Carolina's. Thank you!
The Union Co. Land Grant Maps show a Nicholas Garrett about 1 mile east of Martins Crossroads with a grant of 250 acres in 1792. About 3 miles south of this tract is an Edward Garrett with 500 acres in 1770. Wm. Rhodes is shown across the Enoree from where Buckhead Cr. joins the Enoree, with 370 acres in 1819. Census records for a Nicolas Garrett from 1800 to 1820 suggest that he lived in this vicinity. One property record, Book M page 93, records Reuben Martin selling 255 acres on Beaverdam Cr. to Abraham Gray. Adjoining property owners were David Higgins, Fred Burditt, Elizabeth Stone, Reuben Burditt, and Nicolas Garrett. Year 1826. Richard Lorenz
Searching for the parents of Nicholas Garrett, born Dec. 23, 1799 in SC, probably in Spartenburg or Laurens Co. Died Oct 17, 1867 near Middlefork, Henderson Co. TN. Name on tombstone is Nicholas Garrett - name has also been recorded as James Nicholas. Married Eleanor (Ellen or Elender also recorded) Rhodes, daughter of William Rhodes and Rebecca Wofford c 1820-1822. Sold land in Spartenburg Co. SC 1835 prior to moving to Henderson Co. TN with several Rhodes families. Any clues as to Nicholas' parents would be appreciated. Also would be very interested in a marriage date for Nicholas and Ellen Rhodes. Ellen's father, Rev. William Rhodes, moved to Henderson Co. by 1838. Charlotte Jackson Miller

SC Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Laurens/213 Surname: ------------------------- Still looking for the descendants of George Gothard and Anna "Nancy" Cox. Anna was the daughter of Allen Cox Sr of Newberry Co, Sc. Anna was probably born about 1770-1776, as one of her brothers, Robert, was born in March 1773. I have never discovered who their children were, or any info on them at all. I know this couple was married before 1794, as George is mentioned in the will of Allen Cox Sr. The names of Anna's siblings were: James, Allen Jr, Mary, Ruthy , Robert, Rebecca, Daniel, and William.
I have a few census and property records in my notes that apply to this family. Please let me know if my interpretations are wrong. The earliest property record for Dan is Book O, page 35, 1839 which is located near Kings Chapel as far as I can tell. Other later records suggest the same general location. What might be son John E. is in the same area in 1870 and 1880. In 1880 (I believe it was), this person is listed as Efford Goddard. J.E. is on the 1883 map about 0.4 miles south of Kings Chapel. My interpretation of the census records is that Dan lived near this location from 1840 on. In 1830 he lived much further north, I believe. Please let me know if you know more accurately where Daniel lived. Richard Lorenz

SC in 1822. I think his father was William Liles, Sr. on the 1790 census at Spartenburg Co. SC. but I don't have proof. William Liles, Jr. was found in Lauderdale Co. AL in 1839 where he bought land. Rosanna's last name was spelled M'Cleskey when in SC. Her mother's name was Elizabeth and she was born in Belfast, Ireland. I am also trying to find out if William Liles was from Ireland.

SC to Knox Co. TN. They were found on the 1850 Knox Co. TN census with Elizabeth Goddard as head of the family. The Tuckers then moved to Jefferson Co AL and were found on the 1860 census. Anderson died in 1860 before the census was taken. I would like to know how the Tuckers were connected with Ms. Goddard.
I am not researching Savages in particular, but I am trying to learn where people lived based on census records, deeds, etc. I am fairly (just fairly) confident that the Savages lived very roughly about 2 miles northwest of Bethlehem Church. That is between Saluda and Reedy Rivers about where Walnut Creek joins the Reedy. The property and census records are consistent for this from 1790 on, including Thomas Savage and Zebulin Sawing (probably Savage) in 1790. I am very confident that they did not live in the upper part of the county. There is a strange deed entry for Book O, pages 42 and 178 which show resales of the same 333 acre tract on Rabon Creek. There is a person referred to as "William Choice or Savage" in both records. This could mean 2 different people, or it might refer to one person who has changed his name. Time period 1834-1843. Location the vicinity of Rabon and Center Rabon churches. Richard Lorenz

Zebulon Jr was my gr-gr-gr-grgrandfather. Thanks ever so much for the info. I had little or no information on William and Elizabeth other than their names and some of the property they owned in Rockingham Co, NC and Laurens Co, SC. I believe William's father was John Jr/John II who was son of John whose father was Ensign Thomas Savage who was given 9000 acres of land in Northampton Co, Va by Chief Powhatan in the 1600s. Thanks again.
Mason Nabors appears in the 1820 Laurens Co. census. Sam Nabors may have been in Greenville Co. about this time. There is another Sam in the Laurens census, but he lived in another part of the county. Deed book H, page 34 (H-34) shows Fleet Nabors selling 50 acres to Sam Nabors of Laurens Co. Wit. Robvt and Zedekiah Nabors. Deed H-34 in 1804 also shows Elisha Eastis / Estes selling land to Sam Nabors of Greenville Co. on Old Indian Boundary Line on Line Creek. Wit. Zedekiah Nabors. The Indian Boundary is appx. same as the Greenville Co. line. Sam is mentioned in other property transactions that are in my notes. H46 and H48 are on Horse Creek which crosses the Greenville Co. line between the Saluda and Reedy Rivers. Robert and Sam are mentioned in H42 on Horse Cr. Robert in M67, 1828, on Horse Cr. Sam and Mason and Blasingame and Allen are in M182 or M183 on the Saluda River (1817 & 1819). Sam is mentioned as a Grant in M11 and O133, both on Saluda Rivers. "Grant" does not always mean a land grant. I would look in Greenville Co. records for more on this family. I am not researching them in particular, so there may be much more in Laurens Co. also. Posted on: Laurens Co. SC Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/SC/Laurens/201 Surname: Savage ------------------------- My earliest confirmed ancestor, William Savage, was born in NC. Thomas Savage first appears in Laurens Co. SC in 1790. Zebulon Savage first appears in Laurens Co. SC in 1800. I believe these Savages were in Rockingham Co. NC in the 1780s. In a book entitled Rockingham County North Carolina Deed Abstracts (1785-1800) by Irene B. Webster, 1983 I found the following: Book C, page 28. State of NC to Zebulon Savage 194 A on Pruitts Fork of Hogans Creek adj. Widdow Savage, James Martin, John Thompson, Aaron Arnold. Nov. 8, 1784. Book C, page 36. Zebidee Savage. Aug. 27, 1794. ===== In a book about Laurens Co. SC Deed Abstracts, I found the following: Thomas Savage and wife Ginney of Franklin Co. GA to William Washington for 90 lbs. str., 37 acres bordering on Zebulon Savage, John Duncan, Wm. Obannon. Wit: Wm. Owings, Zebulon Savage, Ruben Yager, Ruben Nash. (1799) Note: I believe this same William Washington owned land adjacent to the Savages in Rockingham Co. NC. ===== Below is a summary of the Laurens/Abbeville Savages: (1) Thomas Savage, born in the 1750s was in Laurens County in 1790. His wife at the time was Ginny ___. They lived on land just north of the Saluda River, probably near the present-day community of Princeton. The land bordered land owned by Zebulon Savage. Thomas sold his land to William Washington in 1799 and moved to Franklin Co. GA. By 1830, Thomas and family had moved to Hall Co. GA. I believe this is the same Thomas Savage who married Jane Taylor on 10 Jun 1775 in NC. He was a soldier in the NC line in the Revolutionary War. Thomas died in Hall Co. GA on 1 May 1839. Thomass youngest son was named Zebedee. (Ginny is a nickname for Jane). (2) Zebulon Savage, Sr., born in the 1750s was listed in the Laurens Co. Census of 1790 as Zebulin Sawing. He lived near Thomas Savage who was about the same age. I believe they were brothers. Zebulon Savage, Sr. remained in Laurens Co. until his death. He died sometime before 1810. (3) Zebulon Savage, born in NC about 1780 first appears in the Laurens Co. Census of 1800. Zebulon and family remain in Laurens Co. until about 1841 when they moved to Tuscaloosa Co. AL. Zebulon died in Tuscaloosa Co. in 1862. Zebulons first wife was named Rebekah Cox. His second wife was named Elizabeth Pinson. Zebulon had the following children: Wesley, Wiley, James, William, Starling, Pendleton, Sarah, Rebecca, Mary, Virginia, Elizabeth, Lucy, Dianna, Catherine, and Emma. I believe this Zebulon Savage was the son of Zebulon Savage, Sr. (4) William Savage was born in NC in the 1780s. He first appears in the Laurens Co. Census of 1810. He was living next to the Zebulon Savage who later moved to Tuscaloosa Co. AL. I believe the William and Zebulon were brothers. William and family moved to Abbeville Co. SC by 1830. By 1840, they had moved to St. Clair Co. AL. Williams wife was Nancy ___. Their children were Linda, Mary, John, Gallington, Drucilla, Zebulon, and Jane. William died in St. Clair Co. in 1851. ===== My line could go this way (this is a reach!): Generation 1: William Savage, born abt. 1720s and wife Elizabeth. Generation 2: Zebulon Savage, born abt. 1750s (may have brothers named Thomas & William) Generation 3: William Savage, born abt. 1780 and wife, Nancy. (may have brother named Zebulon) Generation 4: John Savage, born abt. 1807 and wife, Rebecca. ===== Rockingham Co. NC is just across the border from Pittsylvania Co. VA. Rockingham is bordered by Guilford Co. NC. My guess is that these Savages may have been in VA before NC.
