    1. [SCLAUREN] Prather Family
    2. Trying to find info on my ggrandmother's family. Her name was Missouri Eudora (or Udora) Prather. She was born on Feb 8 and her death certificate lists the year as 1858. She died on October 15, 1940. I have seen the birth year elsewhere as 1861. Her death certificate lists her father as Billy Prather and her mother as Nancy someone (I can't really read it). I have found a Missouri Prather born to William Prather and Nancy Waldrop. My problem is that I can't connect my ggrandmother with them. Missouri was born in Laurens Co., and married Jesse Murphy Bobo. I have more info than I need on the Bobo's. What I need is some help connecting my ggrandmother to this William and Nancy. If these people aren't my gggrandparents, the coincidence in their names and the names and dates on her death certificate are scary. I understand that the library in Laurens has a lot of information on the Prather's. The problem is that I live in Virginia and seldom get to S.C. to check. I! really need help here. Any takers? Thanks Tina

    3. Peggy Sue, A few miles from where I live is a little historical town called Hodges, SC. It was named after a member of one of the Hodges' families living there, George Washington Hodges. His ancestor, Major ? Hodges of revolution era is buried in a family cemetery there and an article was in the local paper a few days ago about how the present owner of the land has allowed the cemetery to be destroyed. He wouldn't let the family descendants clean and put a fence around it. The stones have been broken and there's all kinds of trash where he allows his customers to his go cart race track access through the cemetery. Some people have little respect for the deceased. I'd be afraid they would come back to haunt me! There's a Hodges list on rootsweb for descendants to subscribe to and help fight this cause. They are working with the state government to get a law passed to make it a crime to do such damage. Supposedly all the bodies were removed from the cemetery except the Major's, but they feel there were others still there. To join that list send an e-mail with the subject blank and on the first line of the body of the letter the word subscribe typed to [email protected] Everyone is invited to join this cause.
