    1. [SCLAUREN] Identify Spears, Milam, and Boyds Mill Branches of Little River
    2. I am trying to identify the above branches on the northeast side of Little River below Laurens. The above names (maybe Spence instead of Spears) appear in Deeds around 1840. There are 4 branches that might match 1 or more of the above names. First one joins LRiv 1.5 miles below Laurens Court House (LCH). The 1883 map shows S.W.Simpson, K.Taylor, and D.Cannon on this stream. Second one joins LR 2.8 miles below LCH. This one drains water from Lakeside Country Club. The 1883 shows James Milam on this stream. Third one joins LR 3.7 miles below LCH. This stream is not shown on the 1883 map. Fourth joins LR about 4.5 miles below LCH. This is the shortest of the branches. The 1883 map shows a mill site on this stream. I believe that John and Susan Boyd lived on this stream. It was called Boyds Mill Creek in the Deed. Definitely not Boyds Mill Pond on Reedy River. If you can supply modern day names for any of these branches it will be a help to me. Thanks, Richard Lorenz

    1. [SCLAUREN] Starling and Agnes Davis reply
    2. Starling and Agnes (presumably his mother) are in the 1850 census living near each other in the vicinity of Lanford, I believe. Starling, 21, is with Mariah (21), Mary, 1, and Mary Marlow, 50. Agnes, 50, is with John 10, Mathew 2, Martha 8, and Elizabetha 6 in 1850. Everyone who is interested in my information should realize that it comes from my notes and has not been checked for errors in reading or transcription. Please verify it yourself. Richard Lorenz

    1. [SCLAUREN] Mathew and Chesley Davis reply
    2. These 2 are in the 1880 census living near each other about 2 miles south of Greenpond. Ages 32 and 29. John Cook (29 years) and wife Martha (Davis?)(39 years) are in the 1880 census also south of Greenpond as far as I can tell. In the census they are listed next to Elizabeth Marlow. The 1883 map shows an E. Marlow about 2 miles south of Greenpond. Richard Lorenz I have not seen any deed records that mention members of this Davis family. Richard Lorenz

    1. [SCLAUREN] John A. Wilson b. 1836 -reply
    2. Deed Book T, page 32, 1872, shows that John Ball sold 61 acres and a half acre cemetery to John A. Wilson and Margaret Williams. The property was along the road to John Ball's. The 1883 map shows A. Wilson near J. Ball in Dials Township about 1/2 mile from Youngs Twp. The location is midway between Warrior and Beaverdam Creeks. My notes are a little garbled, but the T-32 deed also says something like "Margaret William to homestead house and 25 acres. Dispence? of lien on property sold on Durbin Creek". Margaret Williams is in the 1870 census for which I interpret her 1870 location as north of Durbin Church which is in the Durbin Creek watershed. The 1880 census entry for these people looks like the Beaverdam-Warrior Creek location. Another deed that might be for a different family is Book O, page 248, 1839. G. W. Smith sold 40 acres on the Saluda River to John Wilson of Abbeville (County?). In Deed P-4, about 1845, John Wilson sold 44 1/2 acres on Saluda River to Joseph McCullough. Richard Lorenz

    2. Peter Selph/Kathy Duncan
    3. This has been a difficult week for all of us, and I know the recent tragic events of Tuesday are foremost in everyone's minds. However, I must remind you that these lists are intended for genealogy research connected to Laurens County, South Carolina only. Please stay on topic. Fortunately, rootsweb anticipated your need to share your concerns regarding this week's disaster, so they have set up a message board especially for that purpose. Below is a portion of a message that I received from rootsweb, which announces the new message board: "Because of the catastrophe that happened in the United States Tuesday, 11 Sept., 2001, MyFamily.com (RootsWeb.com and Ancestry.com) has created a special Message Board for those who wish to express or share condolences, sorrow, prayers, and thoughts for the victims, their families and friends. However, this is not a board for discussion on how the U.S. should resolve this issue or about how the search for those responsible is going. The URL for the board is http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=usa-tragedy.mourning Please join us in sharing this message board with your posters. Let the healing continue ..." Thank you for your understanding in this matter... Kathy Duncan list owner

During Desert > Storm we tied yellow ribbons anywhere we could. Well, now the movement >is to tie purple ribbons the same way. This is for two reasons: > 1.
