    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YeB.2ACI/251.1 Message Board Post: Linda - I don't know if this will help you or not but let me tell you what I have. My great grandmother was Fenella B. Malone who married first Peter Oscar Roberts and second Jefferson Ferrell Milam. My grandfather, from the first marriage was William Halsell Roberts, Sr. Fenella and J. Ferrell Milam had no children but did adopt a daughter who is Guy Nell Milam. In a strange twist of events, my grandfather W.H. Roberts married Mary Claire Milam whose father, Augustus Rush Milam, was the brother to Jefferson Ferrell Milam's father, James L. Milam. My great grandmother's Bible had a number of obituaries pasted in it and I think 3 may be of interest to you. 1. This obituary tells of the death of Mrs. Elizabeth May aged 92 years who died in Holly Grove Section on January 13. (It does not tell the year.) It goes on to say that she was survived by one daughter, Mrs. James L. Milam, two step-sons, Mr. Elmore May of Oklahoma, and Mr. John May of North Carolina; 3 grandsons, Messrs. Ferrell (my step-greatgrandfather), Parrott, and Edd Milam and several great-grandchildren. 2. This obituary tells of the death of Mrs. Lydia R. Milam widow of the late J.L. Milam who died in the Bailey section between Laurens and Clinton. It does not give the date but states that she was 81 and that interment was in Holly Grove cemetery. It states that she was the daughter of the late Jefferson and Lizzie Sterling May and had lived in the county all her life. She was survived by 3 children, Parrott, Ed, and Ferrell (again my step-greatgrandfather), and four grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. 3. On Jan. 16th, 1912, Mrs. Rebecca Christian died at the home of her nephew, Mr. J.L. Milam. She was a native of Newberry and joined Newberry Baptist Church, but later moved her membership to Clinton First Baptist Church. She was buried at Holly Grove Cemetery. She was survived by a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth May, and "other relatives and friends" - it doesn't give any other names. I hope this helps some. I have much more on my line of Milams. If you would like any of it, please e-mail me directly.

Or a possible settlement about 1853. See if she is named as a dau. I'm sorry I have no further info. on this Wm. If you do hook up w/ John, I have more on the Pinsons & Fowlers. If you write to me at [email protected], I can send you doc. abut John's father. Good Luck, Becky Yett Root

    1. [SCLAUREN] Henry Davis
    2. Henry Davis is shown on the Union Co. Land Grant Map #4 with a 50 acre grant in 1787. This is on the Enoree River at Jones Ford, about 1/2 mile above Canebreak Branch. Josiah Duckett had an adjacent grant of 140 acres in 1769 according to the map. Henry Davis' name is written on Map #3 on the north side of modern Highway 72 about 3/4 mile from the Newberry Co. line. This does not appear to be a grant but he was probably listed as an adjoining property owner in an unspecified deed. Richard Lorenz

    1. [SCLAUREN] Henry Davis in Laurens Co., SC
    2. November 17, 2001 Elaine Martin Local History Librarian 1017 West Main Laurens, SC 29360 Dear Ms Martin I am searching for the SC roots of my great great grandfather, Nathan Davis. The surnames related to my search are Odell, Duckett and Fowler and the location is Laurens County or the "Old 96 District". While my search has continued for about 15 years and amounts to over 6000 names, I will not burden you with the details. I am now searching Laurens Co., SC for any details of a Henry Davis, who shows up as a 'head of household' in the 1790 Federal census on page 14. On a seperate sheet I will list some details that I know about Henry Davis which might assist you in your search. Specifically: Did Henry Davis leave a Will or Estate settlement? (I would "estimate" he was born about 1760, and died about 1820) Is Henry's name on any land records? Your answer to either of these questions depends on how well those records are indexed Please find enclosed an addressed envelope. Also please note, that I am willing to pay a professional researcher to find the facts about Henry Davis' family, if you would direct me to such a person.. I thank you for your assistance and I appreciate any advice you might offer. 3. As I was growing up, I heard older adults pronouncing the town of Laurens (La rens) as Lawrence (ending in the sound of 'cents'. I have an atlas with all towns and cities and there is no Laurence or Lawrence, SC. I would think it definitely is Laurens, SC which a lot of migration came to and from.
