    2. Delores and others, I bought my Scrapbook at the Laurens Library several yrs ago from Elaine Martin. If you belong to the Laurens Gen. Society they usually list the books they are selling. I also got the cemetery books from them. You might call the library and ask for Elaine and question her about the books. Lyn Lewis

    3. I just sent a note that I intended to go to the list, but instead sent it to Lil! Sorry, Lil! I would really like a copy of the Scrapbook; I have numerous lines from Laurens Co., SC. Can someone tell me where I might find it? Is there a bookstore I can call for it? It doesn't matter where it is, I will gladly make a call or whatever I need to do. Thank you for your help! 3. While I'm at it.. There aren't any references to my JONES line in the book-so far.. I am the 5th granddaughter (if I added them right.) of SAMUEL JESSE (JESSIE) JONES born about 1763 and dying in 1796. He married REBECCA DALRYMPLE. Am hoping there are some JONES family out there. Samuel was born in Newberry but died in Laurens and is buried in the Dalrymple Cem. in Kinard SC.. Any clues for me? Sandy in SC

    3. Ok, ok... Hang on a sec.. I'll go thru the family names and list them. The way it looks to me after a cursory look thru is that the founding families are listed with a few of the more outstanding progeny being listed as well. Bear with me but I will send a complete list of the surnames and then if one strikes a note with anyone I'll look at the complete story.. there are several photo's of people so I'll do what I can to get them out as well. I am not the fastest in the world but I will do what I can.. Sandy in Dacusville..

Mitchell, b approx 1803 married to Asenath Jones b approx 1807. Their son, Henry Thomas, married Martha Ann Lucinda Bean in 1850 in Randolph Co AL, and their daughter Sarah Ann Gemima married Martha's brother, David Marcellus Bean in 1849 in Randolph Co AL. As Martha's family came from the Laurens area, I've moved my search of John & Asenath to here, trying to establish the family somewhere. They were also in Coweta GA in the 1820's and Henry Co GA in the 1830. Any assistance greatly appreciated! Additional family details are posted at http://www.geocities.com/hr_mitchell.

H. Mitchell question--birthdays- Mary, John Mitchell I do not have concrete dates. I have read 1782 Laurens Co., but also 1786 in Ga. for Mary. She and her husband David appear on the Arkansas mortality tables -- d. 1848 Prairie Co., Ark of cholera. It lists her age and I simply counted backward for the approximate year--1782. LDS say 1786, but they have incorrect info. on other family members. I really don't know. Thanks for your reply, Bill Robertson

    1. RE: [SCLAUREN] Walnut Grove, SC
    2. Charles Compton
    3. Charlotte: According to what I can find on GNIS (USGS National Mapping Service) and my Spartanburg County map, here is what I was able to find. Maybe this will help you more than confuse. In Laurens County there is no Walnut Grove PPL (populated place), however there is Walnut Grove Church which is about 3 miles due east of Ware Shoals (Greenwood County). There was also a (historical) Tabernacle Church about two miles north of Walnut Grove Church. My guess is that maybe Lake Greenwood project maybe got this Tabernacle Church and Cemetery? Is this what prompted the cemetery move? Is this the right place? In Spartanburg County, there is a Walnut Grove community, Church and Cemetery located about 8 miles NE of Woodruff and 4 1/2 miles SSE of Roebuck. If you look due south of this location an additional 6 miles you will find a Tabernacle Church and the site of the Rev. Benjamin Woffard's home (due east of Woodruff, about 7 miles). I'll bet this is it. The Woffards and Comptons intermarried in Laurens County in the early 1900's (Joseph Llewallen Wofford + Mabel Compton). Both of these are buried at Hebron United Methodist Church Cemetery which is about 2 miles from Tabernacle Church in Spartanburg County. If you don't have a Spartanburg County map, you need to get one. The general SC state Highway map is totally useless in this situation. Tell me more about your family. You know of the Compton connection I mentioned?
