My ggm, Mary Ann PHILLIPS Sutton, has been found on the 1860 Lancaster Co., S.C. census, age 28 and m.to my ggf Zachariah Sutton, with one child, Sarah Frances, age 5 months. Same information on the 1870 Lancaster Co., census, age 38, five children, Sarah Frances, age 10, Eliza Ann, age 8, George Franklin, age 6 (my gf), Lucy, age 3, and Sophronia Matilda, age 7 months. In the 1880 Kershaw Co., S.C. census, she is listed as a widow, age 46, with two children, George Franklin, age 16, and Sophronia Matilda, age 10. I do not have any confirmed information on Mary Ann PHILLIPS Sutton, prior to 1860, or after 1880. I understand she may be the daughter, M.A. Phillips, listed in the Fairfield Co., S.C., 1850 census, p. 659: R. Phillips (Robert) male age 64, b. 1786, S. Phillips (Susannah Baxter) age 55, b. 1795 M.A. (Mary Ann) Phillips, age 18, b.1832 L.A. (Lemual Albert) Phillips, age 14, b.1836, R.J. (Robert John) Phillips, age12, b. 1832, and J.J. (John Jefferson) Phillips, age 10, b. 1840 The graves of John Jefferson PHILLIPS, b. 17 Oct 1846, d. 17 Jul 1912, his wife Jincy J. PHILLIPS, b.6 Jan 1841 , d. 1 Feb 1900, and a Margaret Byrd PHILLIPS, b. 29 Jan 1809, d. 15 Apr 1892, are located in Lancaster Co., Flat Creek area, at the intersection of Taxhaw Road and Constable Dr., in the small Farmer-Pittman Cemetery, adjacent to the New Haven Baptist Church. I've been told, my gf, George Franklin Sutton,b.1-10-1864, d.11-14-1943, visited this site many times.
