I am trying to find the parents for Elias Stephens b. 9/30/1801 S.C. d. 12/16/1865 Coweta County, Ga. who is believed to be from Lancaster county area or other nearby county in S.C. Elias married Barbara Rush? Stephens and moved to Coweta County Ga, around 1834-1835. at least two of his children were born in S.C. (Emaline Stephens and Marion Stephens around 1833-1834). Elias and Barbara and their children and Barbara's mother Mary show up in the 1850 and other Coweta County census' and are burried in this area. My uncle's research concluded that Elias' father was Joab from Lancaster and Joab's father was Moab from Lancaster (Moab and Joab are shown in S.C. census listings in 1810). However we have no definite source that shows these relationships ...mostly assumption from other research. Another family members research concluded that a James Stephens was Elias father and James was the brother of John Washington Stephens.
