I have the recently published (1998) Roster of Confederate Units, South Carolina Volume. I am willing to help in your research by doing a lookup. This book is a listing of National Archive Records and contains name, unit, and company. It has nothing about where he or when he served. There is no source of all the troops from SC who served. Some of the State Troop units (especially those raised in the last year of the war) are all but lost to history. My great grandfather is not here but is on the muste of a Company of 16 year olds from Lancaster/Kershaw County. Also, SC was a rabid secessopnist state and many men crossed into North Carolina and Georgia to join there, where a bounty was needed to fill their needs. These men ARE NOT in this book. There are men who were born outside of SC and who joined a SC unit who will be here. Having learned my lesson with my Swamp Fox offer, I will respond to only those who provide a surname and a given name or initials. I will ignore surname requests only. I just don't have that much time available. I will look for close hits but will no look at every possible spellings.
