Maybe this will help some of you trying to find someone: Lancaster Ledger Newspaper Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1902 Mr. Lester Nelson has a position at J.J. Blackmon's. Died, August 29, 1902, the 3 month old son of Mr. & Mrs. William Langley. It was buried Saturday at Beaver Creek Church. Mr. M.J. Hough, formerly of Lancaster but now of Chesterfield, was nominated in the recent primary election for probate judge of that county. Married, in this county, August 27, 1902, Mr. Samuel D. McManus and Miss Ida Hunter, youngest daughter of Mr. W.J. Hunter, B.F. Adams notary public, officiating. Mr. Roy Strait and Miss Maude Bowling, both of Lancaster, were married by Rev. Chambers Fraser at the residence of the bride's father, Mr. W.F. Bowling, last Thursday night, August 28th. Mr. P.W. Hardin came over from Lancaster, Sunday and yesterday and removed his household effects to that place where he will reside in the future. Mr. and Mrs. Hardin were good citizens and their removal from this city is regretted by numerous friends. Mr. S.E. Usher Killed Mr. Samuel E. Usher of Dwight was shot and killed by Mr. John H. Steele, a neighbor, Wednesday last at about sunset. The shooting occurred in the yard of Mr. James Porter, while Mr. Usher was standing talking to Mrs. Porter and showing the children a rabbit he had killed. The weapon used in the murder was a double-barreled shotgun, both barrels being fired simultaneously. The first load took effect in Mr. Usher's left breast just above the heart, and the second between the shoulders. Mr. Usher lived but a few minutes after the shooting. Bad feelings had existed between the two and they had not spoken for several years. Mr. Usher was a one-armed ex-Confederate soldier, and was about 65 years old. He leaves a widow and several children surviving him. His remains were buried Friday at Tabernacle after funeral services by Rev. R.J. Blackmon. W.C. THE VISITORS: Mr. L.S. Elliott spent Sunday in Yorkville. Mr. "Pomp" Lindsay of Rock Hill was in town yesterday. Mesdames J.T. and T.C. Green visited friends in York last week. Mrs. J.C. Elliott of Yorkville is visiting her daughter Mrs. J.B. Mackorell. Mr. Walter F. Young of Jacksonville, Fla., is visiting the family of his father Mr. R. Young. Miss Isabel Craig is visiting her relatives of Sardis, N.C. Mr. & Mrs. M.H. Johnson are back from a visit to Asheville. Mr. & Mrs. W.T. Gregory have returned from a ten days stay at Cleveland Springs. Miss Marie Craig of Sincerity will matriculate at Winthrop College on the 17th. Mrs. W.Q. Caskey of New Cut visited relatives at Catawba Junction last and this week. Mrs. Robt. G. Sens (?) has returned to Kershaw after a visit of several days in and around Lancaster. Mrs. Ellie Caldwell of Camden is visiting relatives in Lancaster. Miss Bessie Mackey has returned from a visit to her sister, Mrs. Butler, of Richmond, Va. Mr. Jeff Howie and family have been on a visit to the family of his father-in-law here, Mr. A.J. Roddey. Mrs. Laura Neeley and daughter, Mrs. Doris of Leslie, are visiting the family of Mr. Giles near Lancaster. Mrs. Chas. D. Jones left Monday for a visit to her father's Mr. B.D. Heath, of Charlotte. Mr. Oliver C. Blackmon has gone to Burlington, N.C. on a visit to his brother, Mr. Geo. W. Blackmon. Mr. & Mrs. Jim Beckham of Yorkville spent several days with relatives here the past week. Mr. & Mrs. O.K. Williams of Rock Hill visited the former's sister here last week, Mrs. J.S. Wilson. Mr. Albert Blakeney of Chesterfield spent a few days here last week with his sister, Mrs. Geo. W. Baker, and his brother, Mr. Hugh Blakeney, near town. Misses Connie and Bernice Davis returned last week from a visit to the home of their father's boyhood days in Lincoln County, N.C. Their grandmother, Mrs. Mary Davis, accompanied them home for an extended visit. Miss Helen Tompkins of Rock Hill, is visiting the family of Mr. Chas. T. Conners. Mrs. S.L.
