    3. Bill, Thank you so very much. I know very little about Belle, it is said that her sister married a Belk, they founded the Belk department stores. Family tales. Albert was born in Lancaster County to Robert Phillips and Susannah ? not the Phillips/Deason line. The time frame is 1840-1900, Albert Phillips served with the Lancaster Invincibles along with his brother Robert J.Phillips. Taken from the Widow's pension application:Mrs. Belle Phillips made the following statement under oath: That her residence was Rafter, Monroe, County, Tennessee since 1868. That she was born on February 14, 1834, that her maiden name was Belle Henson. That she married Lemual Albert Phillips in Lancaster County, So.Carolina on the first Sunday in July 1854. That her husband was born in Lancaster County, S.C. on July 27, 1835. That he enlisted in the Spring of 1861 in Company H, 2nd S.C. Regiment; that he served four years and surrendered at Greensboro , N.C. that he died on September 11, 1907. that their children were: John Phillips age 50, Susan Young, age 49, M.J. Phillips, deceased, Noah Philips, age 40, Nannie (Nancy) Brown, age 37, and Floyd Phillips, age 36. The Application was accepted. We don't know the maiden name of Susannah-some say it was Baxter, but I can't find any evidence either way. Times being so difficult and with records destroyed by Sherman's army it is difficult to find wills and estate papers. Thank you for offering to dig around. 3. Although Phillips is not one of my family lines, I do have a record of RJ Phillips signing a document during the Civil War. It has several Lancaster families, including Hinson, signing the petition. 165 citizens of Lancaster county signed the petition. A copy of the petition is in the National Archives in DC.
