    3. RE: Sue Brooks's request for any ID of 1850 census Masseys, etc. Just in case someone does have an answer, here are some clues and a question. There was an Ezekiah (or Hezekiah) Massey a few miles southwest of Lancaster in the Camp Creek area. In 1826, Samuel Hammond petitioned for the distribution of the estate of Sherod Sims, Senior. The land was purchased by Hugh McCrory and was bounded by lands of William Johnston, Richard Buckaloo, James Parks, Daniel Hargroves, Hezekiah Massey, James King, and others. In 1838, E. Massey sold to John Vanlandingham 150 acres on Crooked Creek bounded by lands of William Johnson on the north and west. On 13 Sept 1852, Ezekiah (and Margaret) Massey sold to John D. McCardell 150 acres on Crooked Creek. William Johnson's brother, John M. Johnson, was the husband of Mary (Marlow) and had children Jane and Andrew. John M. Johnson apparently lived on Camp Creek in Lancaster Co, SC until the early 1840s. Jane (44) was in Henry V Massey's household in 1850, and Andrew was a neighbor. On 15 July 1845, Mary Johnson, widow, deeded her real and personal estate to Henry V. Massey, for "natural love and affection", including 200 acres on Camp Creek bounded by lands of Robert Douglas on the north, George Perry on the east, J. Carter on the south and southwest (formerly Andrew McIlwain's), and Hunter's land on the northwest. In return, H. V. Massey promised to provide food, clothing, and shelter for Mary Johnson and to assume responsibility for her debts, including those arising from the execution of her late husband's will. Witnesses were Andrew Johnson and John J. Sims. In 1850, the census entry after the houehold of H. V. Massey, 35, Wagon Maker, where Jane Johnston (44) was residing, was that of A. W. Johnston, 43 (Male) and J. 23 (Female). That would be Andrew. So: What was the connection between Mary (Marlow) Johnson and Henry V Massey?
