    3. Tracey, I have a Hugh Montgomery (no birth date) who married Annie Underwood Battle ( b. 1799 NC). His children were Minerva, Jane, Elvira, William B., Nancy Bronetta, and Thomas Evans. Thomas Evans was my great grandfather. Thomas was born in Mississippi after the family had lived in Tennessee for a while. I think the family stayed in South Carolina until after 1815. A big problem with the Montgomery family is that we use the same names over and over. In every generation there will be a James, John, William, Thomas, Alexander, and a Hugh. My earliest ancestor in this country was Robert Montgomery (b. 1765 SC). He was the youngest of nine (!) brothers so I'll bet that there are lots of John Montgomerys and that several are kin to me. If you find any clues, I would be delighted to hear about them. I don't know the names of Robert's parents or any of the brothers, so I am at a brick wall.
