I'd pick Jane Hunter Horton, wife of William Starling Horton, for Thanksgiving dinner -- and of course I'd invite William as well. According to my grandmother, when Jane was only about 20 years old her baby was taken by one of Sherman's soldiers. She marched down to the Union Army's camp and insisted on seeing Sherman himself. The general promptly found and returned her infant to her. She was apparently regarded as a bit eccentric for maintaining that he really didn't seem like such a bad person. Besides potential enjoyment of her personality, of course I'd like to get the straight story on her Hunter and other ancestors. I'm reasonably sure that her father was James R. Hunter, but I've gotten two different versions of who her mother was, and no information that would really help with her maternal line. Ah well, the thrill of the hunt -- Lynn Teague Teague_L@bellsouth.net On Nov 23, 2004, at 10:12 AM, Carol C-H wrote: > u invite?
