I am researching descendants of Samuel TYNES, son of William TYNES and Patience DAVIS; born in (or near) Caroline County, Virginia, in about 1750; grew up in Granville County, North Carolina; and was in old Camden District, South Carolina, by 1775. He joined a Revolutionary cavalry unit that year, but by 1780 had switched sides and was a colonel for the British. He is on the 1790 census in Lancaster District, and figures in land and court records in Lancaster and Kershaw districts until 1797, which is apparently when he died. The 1800 census shows two TYNES (TINES) families in the area: Mary, apparently Samuel's widow but too young to be the mother of his earlier children; and Francis, probably his son. Other documented or probable children are Obadiah, Henry, James, and Nancy. The last two are said to have married BROWNs, from Chester District. The census records suggest more children, but I have no information on their names. Other families that Samuel interacted with are DAVIS (his mother's surname) and COLLINS. His brothers William and Fleming lived in Sumter District. -- Mark James <tmarkjames@yahoo.com> __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Address AutoComplete - You start.
