Glad to see the exchange of info on OLD Waxhaw Presbyterian Church in Lancaster SC and one in Waxhaw NC - they are really not too many miles apart.. Clarified the difference for me who lives not that far away and probably also for those who live out of state and would not realize the difference. I had the same impression about the question. Since this is a Lancaster site, Aileen makes an obvious assumption. Alice Baker's directions were excellent. How about using the designation "Old WaxhawPresbyterian" (which is correct) so that people won't confuse the Lancaster County church with the NC church? But then, if you want to shop for antiques do visit Waxhaw, NC. If you want to ramble through the oldest cemetery in upcountry SC with some most unusual stones and loaded with history, go to Old Waxhaws. If you are going from Lancaster, go west on Hwy 9 Bypass until you get to the turn off to the Riverside Road (and Van Wyck) and take that; stay on it and about a mile after you cross the railroad tracks there will be a fork in the road; go right on Old Hickory Road and the church will be on your right. If you are coming from toward Charlotte, come down Hwy 521 until after you pass Hwy 5 and Waxhaw Creek you will see a store on the right hand side; it is the North Corner store. Turn right and go (about 2 miles) until you run into Old Hickory Road and turn left. It's about 2 miles to the church, I believe, and it will be on the left hand side. I was at the Massey-Cureton Family Reunion in 1949 when Dr. Thomas Kirk Cureton gave his talk and gave out copies of his paper. He was a cousin and I have a copy somewhere (have been packing things up as I'm expecting visitors next week, for a month) and I know that the Lancaster County Library has a copy. Where are you located? Are you a Cureton descendant also?
