I am trying to locate Flat Rock Road. I am looking at road 903 using Mapquest. This road seems to go from the city of Lancaster to highway 151. Is the whole distance along road 903 known as Flat Rock Road? To get the image I am looking at, I used Flat Rock Road for the address, Kershaw for the city, and South Carolina for the state. I am looking at the map on level 5. Carole

Talked to the former minister who had written my aunt for Stephen BROCK'S picture. He's going to send me some info. I was told Stephen was the first minister at 2nd Baptist Church in Lancaster. Anyone a member there? It's the one that has over 800 members? Also a minister at Ebenezer Baptist in Lancaster. ( I think it's in Lancaster, or Lancaster Co.) He came to SC sometime after 1880...(he was in NC) He married Mary Ann SHAW, daughter of Murdock Wesley SHAW. He and Mary Ann went to Camden...where my grandfather was born...in 1882. Then supposedly they went back to Kinston, NC for a while. Any other info on him would be appreciated!

I've already got pretty much everything that can be found on line, such as census records, but not much else seems to be readily available. Thanks for your help Rebecca

Does anyone on the list have information on a Samuel R Gibson and his family? Believe he died between 1840 and 1850 Thanks Virginia Turner eytvwt@ftc-i.net
I am researching a James Tutt and wife, Elizabeth Wright, who were in Chambers Co., AL, for the 1840 and 1850 censuses. I believe they may have come from Lancaster Co., SC, and both were born ca. 1790. Elizabeth had a brother named Francis Wright who died ca. 1843 in AL. I know there were two Tutts on the 1800 Lancaster Co. census. James and John. ( I believe this James was also on the 1790 census for York Co.) It appears that James was old enough to perhaps be John's father, but I don't know that as a fact. I am trying to determine if there is any direct connection between the James from Chambers Co., AL, and the James and John from Lancaster Co., SC. Also, I would be interested in the names of the wives of James and John Tutt of Lancaster Co. or any facts about them. Any help appreciated. Gary Tutt Denton, TX

If I could invite an ancestor from Lancaster Co., SC, to Thanksgiving dinner, I would invite my third-great grandmother Elizabeth Hagler who married George Christman. I would ask her how and where she met George Christman. Did George originally come to the Lynches Creek area seeking safety with his mother and siblings, until the Revolutionary War was over, after his father Michael Christman, Sr. was murdered in 1780 "on the pretense he was a Tory," according to the State Records of North Carolina? How and where did George's brother Michael Christman, Jr. meet his future wife Elizabeth Wydner the daughter of Isaac Wydner who lived on Lynches Creek? How and where did George's sister Margaret meet her future husband Jacob/James Runnells? Was he the son of John Runnells who settled on the east side of Lynches Creek in 1765 whose land was eventually in Chesterfield Co., SC, and was opposite Flat Creek which was on the east side of Lynches Creek? Why did she (Elizabeth) and George move from Dutch Buffalo Creek in Mecklenburg Co., NC, to Flat Creek, a branch of Lynches Creek, in Lancaster Co., SC, by the time of the 1800 US Census? Why did they sell their land in South Carolina in 1805 and move to Christian Co., KY? Who were her (Elizabeth's) parents and siblings? Was her father Sebastian Hagler who lived not far from George and Elizabeth on another branch of Lynches Creek? Did she have brothers named Abraham, Jacob, and Paul? If she had sisters, what were their names? For Thanksgiving I would like to invite my ancestor Drury Morrow, a native of Cumberland County, VA who was a lieutenant in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. He might have some war stories but I think my family would really enjoy his fiddle playing. Family lore has it that he was in frequent demand to perform at community gatherings. Drury Watson, 1740-1829 is supposedly buried in the Old Six Mile Cemetery, Indian Land, alongside his daughter Susannah Watson Morrow and his son-in-law James McKnight Morrow. The Morrows settled on Twelve Mile Creek c. 1788 in the Catawba Indian Land between the present NC boundary line and #521. WATSON, DRURY. Deed Book F, Lancaster Co, SC, p. 241: State of South Carolina, Lancaster District - to all whom these presents may come greeting. Know ye that I Drury Watson of the State of Virginia Cumberland County hath bargained & sold unto James Morrow of the State and district above mentioned a certain negro woman named Agg and a boy named London, and a child named Ambris children of said wench for the consideration of 500 dollars cash paid to me in hand to which I do forever quit claim to the said negro wench and children forever, bargained sold and by these presents do bargain and sell unto the above mentioned James Morrow, the above mentioned negro woman and children with her increase bargained sold and delivered. In witness whereof I have set my hand this 27th day of August 1804. Signed Drurey Watson. Witnesses: Eli Crocket, Jonathan Coffey
Sheryl I would invite Lewis Ervin Baker to our house for Thanksgiving dinner. He was my great grandfather he was born about 1823, in Chesterfield County, SC but was located in Lancaster County on census records: in 1850 living with a family named Small in Lancaster County; in 1860, he lived at the Flint Ridge Post Office in Lancaster Co with his wife Ellender and children; then in 1870, he is back in Chesterfield County at the Old Store Precinct which is present day Pageland, SC, with wife Mary and children; in 1880 he is back in Lancaster County at Cedar Creek Twp. with no wife but five of the children. Daughter Ida J. Baker age 24 single; William R. Baker age 20 single; Thomas Baker age 13; Henry C. Baker age 10; and James Baker age 8. James was my grandfather. The wife of Lewis Baker was Mary Ellender Roberts of Chesterfield County, SC; I was able to get death certificates on all the children to verify the name of their mother. One question I would like to ask ole great grandpa Lewis is who were his parents? I think I know but am not sure. He had a sister named Queen A. Baker who married Bennet Pitman, I would ask where she and her family could be found. Queen and Lewis has a brother named John Jake Baker who married Melissa Roberts and I believe she was a sister of Mary Ellender Roberts; Lewis could answer this question too. There was one other sister, Caroline Baker who never married that I can identify by census records. There were other brothers and sisters according to the census but as we all know the early census only had the number of males and females in an age bracket not the names. If any of you see Queen A. Baker Pitman, Bennet Pitman or their children James G. Pitman born 1850; George W. Pitman born 1851; Lewis S. Pitman born 1853; Thomas L. Pitman born 1855; Jane Pitman born 1857 or John Pitman born Feb 1860 please tell them I am looking for them. I would love to locate this family too. Maybe they could put names to the other six un-named siblings. One last question I would ask Lewis Ervin Baker is who was Margaret Dutch? Where is she? How do I find her? Well three last questions! I was told that she was a wife of Lewis Baker but I can not find anything on her. She did not give birth to any of his children so who is she? I would love to have dinner with my great grandfather, David Aurelius Williams, who was born in Lancaster County in 1837 and died in 1928. He was married to Sarah Amanda Clyburn who was also a Lancaster County native. He served in the Civil War and was wounded during the war. They were founding members of the First Baptist Church there. Their daughter, Alice Esther Williams Dobson was my grandmother. I have seen pictures of them and my grandmother looked like her father, I think. Elizabeth Ashmore
